Just found this diag. Thought I'd post it for reference.
Included a dimension comparison of a couple of parts from medium to the 850 which would be appropriate for the M543/M816/M936...
High enough for you?
This is how ALL the Australian M816's were modified (amongst other things) before entering service.
Has anyone else stopped to think of the shearing force that those two little pins in the transport legs have to carry???
When setting the boom for a sus tow, over...
Just the leg inserts or the whole tube that is part of the bed? - looks like a lot of work for an extra 6" of space...
... So you have to step into them to get the stuff in the middle as reaching over the open lid from standing on the bed floor will be so much fun! and you'll rip the a$$ out...
What's that extra stuff under the Holmes lift bar..... That for hooking the neighbours Hilman Imp?
Did you just move from Lincoln to London? - That's a step backwards isn't it! (What with the diesel smog tax and all!)
OK - To the modification - are you up for some pics and dims on the Holmes...
2" to 3.5" Kingpin converter
As a M916 has a 3.5" Fifth wheel - does anyone know if there is a bolt together, split, addapter collar that can size up a 2" Kinpin to 3.5" on a civi trailer for occasional use with a 3.5" Fifth wheel ... available in the US?
This would be an alternative to...
So - what gives with all the vanishing M1102 trailers at Ft Drum?
It appears that GL's left hand doesn't know what it's right hand is selling!
From this morning - but has been like this for a few weeks on and off.
Did a local Elvis impersonator do a secret deal? 8)
Did the Afghan army...
I am heading to Ft Drum in the next "10 business days" (or whatever they will allow - I'm still bidding!) and will probably have room on my gooseneck lowboy for a pickup.
They recently had a load of "cadillac boxes", tool chests and M1102 trailers, one/two of these I could squeeze on.
PM first...
Yeah - I think this would be a great mod:
1 - Convert front out rigger feet(pads) to stowable M819 rear type.
2 - Remove both locker 3A and 3B lids, with their piano hinges.
3 - Remove drip channel from center of two lockers - and fill in hole in front and back.
4 - Relocate one of the locker...
I would love to do something along these lines - but we don't have ground access lockers on the 816/936...
But may put lift gate spring/dampers on the lids to lift the weight of hooks/pig tails on the underside of the 3A 3B lids for the chain ends, so they are organised, also for some of the...
Sam - do you need more pics or larger versions of those pics? I have a few more pics as I too am building a similar setup and have most of the stock/fitments etc.
Pic #3 post 46.
I think it would work.. 'ish. The two attachment points of the two halves of the towbars would pivot (for turning corners) just as the two arms do on the Holmes 750/850 pictured.
The pivot that would be missing is that which would allow twist between the two vehicles.
Going by the drum dimentions alone, assuming 1/2" cable... M62 has drum capacity of 89' and your 819 has 98' - not enough of a difference in my mind considering the added height of the manual stick.....
I must be missing something, but yes, assisting the winch for self recovery with driving wheels would be nice, (But some dufus probably had a wreck doing it wrong and therefore spoilt it for all that follow - new ruleing and soforth) BUT, what's wrong with using the winch, at full pto speed...
