They tend to get it when they idle a lot or are used at low RPMs. The TM even says to cure it, drive it hard on the road for a while. Both of my trucks have gotten it really bad a few times. My M109A3 did the other day when I decided to practice backing my M105A2 all the way down my driveway...
My trucks shift way easier with SAE 50 motor oil in the transmissions. A few times at stop lights I couldn't get it into first so I gave up and started in second. Doesn't happen anymore with SAE 50. Also put in 1qt of Lucas too, don't know if that made any difference.
I recently replaced my hoses and the ones on my buddy's deuce with the ones from Eriks. Now you got me nervous. I don't think they were NOS though, but a couple were made in Japan, if it was Chinese made I wouldn't dare put it on. It's time to do the ones on my M109A3 and I think I'll get some...

I adjust my bearings so there is a very slight amount of play or they get really hot. I'm not sure about the shocks either but other people have reported it fixed their cupping and it fixed mine too.
Check your shocks. Mine was cupping like that until I replaced them. They were completely shot with no resistance at all. The ride is way smoother now too. Haven't checked toe in yet.
If only you were closer, I'd do it for ammo:grin:. Head gaskets are pretty easy to do on a deuce, the hard part is lifting the heads off since they weigh around 80lbs each and removing the nuts under the injectors require a special wrench. A couple guys could lift them off without too much...
I've changed my driving style since I first got it. I shift sooner and run at lower RPMs and get way better mileage. I almost never have it at 2500 unless I'm trying to shift from 3rd to 4th on any kind of hill. I drove to get hay the other day and only drove about 40-45 on the back roads and...
Updated post #4 with a few pictures. Also got the box wired to shore power and tested it, I'll post pics when I get the lights painted and re-installed and the receptacle permanently mounted on the box.
Scored 7 brand new, never mounted T-831s from 5 Tire in Texas(good folks to deal with) that...
I looked into the pressure treated stuff, but saw that it was harmful to metal so I didn't go that route.
Would be a challenge to redo the whole metal sub-floor, but definitely doable if you want the most durability. If you get the heat reflective insulation like I used you may be able to skip...
I saw that on youtube. Looks good except for those rust issues.
I got the thickest plywood I could, I think 1" or a little more, and just put it right on the crossmembers. It was a little difficult because the box isn't perfectly square, so it was a custom fit. I havent sealed the bottom yet...
I put those on my A2 last December and they are fine so far. It really smoothed out the ride, but the originals were completely shot. It also took care of the tire cupping mostly. It looks like it might still be doing it a tiny bit, but nothing like it was.
