With the 1100R20 Michelin XZL's I have hauled 12 ton lots of times without any issue. About .5" narrower and about .5" shorter than the G177's. Function over looks.
The 365/80's on the front were a helpful addition also.

I have had one or more K/V30's continuously since 1977.
If your 1977 has a 205 transfer case it would have been a manual transmission when new, or the original 203 was replaced with the 205 if it had an automatic. I know as I bought one new in 1977.
