That's a nice plate, its called a Kompensator, and it's a better version of the standard fifth wheels that have two pivots perpendicular to each other. Commonly found on the 916's.

Whats pretty good? The best I've ever got was 10, driving at 45mph, behind a HET on I5.

Look into renting a fifth wheel towing attachment. Almost bid on your truck (great deal) and was going to get it with a tru-hitch on my 916. Can maybe weigh down the back of your truck with ballast then flat tow?

Update, picked the truck up after having the codes read and cleared. They were all inactive, and seemed pretty benign. They were: engine overspeed, fuel temp. too high, and ECM voltage low. Going to check all the connections for corrosion, and find out more about these faults.
