That's a nice plate, its called a Kompensator, and it's a better version of the standard fifth wheels that have two pivots perpendicular to each other. Commonly found on the 916's. https://www.truckpaper.com/images/Truck/externalfiles/24058.pdf

Whats pretty good? The best I've ever got was 10, driving at 45mph, behind a HET on I5. 6-7 is typical for me. For what its worth, my 5ton is one of the most reliable vehicles I've owned, and I've had a few Toyotas.

You'll be getting more like 6-7mpg while daily driving it.

Worried about how flexy the frame rails will be? Sounds pretty sweet though.

Did you already turn up the pump? How heavy of a load are you pulling? Putting in a bigger transmission?

I used the inserts off a 5ton on ours. Also, the welds were beginning to crack in some places. Check yours out real well, they're pretty old.

Look forward to hearing what you think of that turbo. Where did you get it from? Just ordered the GSK, and a 5'' donaldson silent partner muffler so I'm thinking of the next few logical steps.

14's already rub the body and fenders, if anything, 395's would be best.

Look into renting a fifth wheel towing attachment. Almost bid on your truck (great deal) and was going to get it with a tru-hitch on my 916. Can maybe weigh down the back of your truck with ballast then flat tow?

Update, picked the truck up after having the codes read and cleared. They were all inactive, and seemed pretty benign. They were: engine overspeed, fuel temp. too high, and ECM voltage low. Going to check all the connections for corrosion, and find out more about these faults.
