Lifting points for deuce bed removal

The bed, empty, weighed right at 1,300#. tm america has a good point on length. If you have the overhead clearance, the longer the sling/chain/cable legs the better. You should never rig so close that the load to hook angle is less than 30 degrees. Too easy to crush the load as it's weight tries...

Lifting points for deuce bed removal

Here's how we rigged the deuce bed for the baby HEMTT. We dropped chains down through the front head board pockets and looped back to them and set the hooks. On the rear; we used slings and dropped their ends into the siderack pockets, and ran a bolt through the same way the side racks are...

    Safety idea.....

The baby HEMTT's axles are out from under an M900 series five ton and those rears have "spring brakes". I have to have air pressure to even get them to release. A loss of air should cause the brakes to set up, not fail to apply. There are also single and double check valves that can replace an...

updated pics of my hemtt restoration

I'd pay you a compliment but I'm too busy drooling and stepping on my own tongue. Great job !!! Can't wait to get both yours and the baby HEMTT together for a photo shoot.

    Some of my collection

Did a little RR related kit-bashing once upon a time and from one who even made his own scale barbed wire I have to say your attention to detail is museum-grade. I think the personal crew touches, weathering, and 'clutter' make your work far more interesting than the sterile...

updated pics of my hemtt restoration

Looks like Spicer 1700 series u-joints. Plentiful, inexpensive, and easy to change. Nice looking trans there dma251. Hope it's the cure for all your gearbox woes.

    deuce frame reinforcement

You might want to look into structural shapes and their characteristics. With sufficient wall thickness, tubing- round or box, is often stronger than solid. DOM tubing is usually more expensive and only used if a very specific inside or outside dimension is required. Steel comes in all levels of...

    Ideas on texture in paint?

Any paint store that handles industrial coating can supply you with a texturing additive (usually ground rubber or polymer granules) that's specifically made to add non-skid texture to floors and steps, as well as areas around swimming pools. Usually applied by sprinkling onto a base coat while...

updated pics of my hemtt restoration

So much for getting bored with the HEMTT and selling it off. You've slipped past the event horizon and fallen into the dreaded Accessory Vortex; from which there is no escape, escape, escape...

Work on the baby HEMTT grinds to a start.

Yeah Bjorn. Her name is Ruff and they do a real good job of keeping the riff-raff out when I'm away. They're both rescue dogs from the pound and they get along and play like they grew up together. Even considering his size, I'd rather tangle with Cole than with her; she's smaller, faster and has...

Right way, wrong way??? (Valve Stems)

We mount ours with the valve stem pointing out towards the shallow side. If mounted as a front tire the valve stem will be pointing at you. This way there's no problem damaging the fill end of the stem by hitting the brake drum. And when mounted as duals, the outside wheel valve stem is at least...

    HEMTT Destruction

Good eye emmado22. The taillight placement should have tipped me off.

    HEMTT Destruction

Yep, mkcoen-- when you're right, you're right. Definately all HEMTT stuff; and a shame since they look in pretty choice condition..

Work on the baby HEMTT grinds to a start.

Got most everything buttoned up for the next round of storms and thought it would be a good time to take a couple of pictures. The baby HEMTT starts right up and the transmission loads and tries to pull against the parking brakes and wheel chocks. Morse cables are in the works for transmission...

    HEMTT Destruction

Take a look at the cabs; if they have two rear windows they're HEMTT cabs-- if just one on the driver's side then they're USMC LVS cabs. For some reason there were a lot of LVS cabs being released for a while. Possibly because the up-armor kits included new cabs? If the beds are just bare beds...

updated pics of my hemtt restoration

Our very latest L. O. for the HEMTTs still says OE/HDO-15W40 for the transmission. But again, that's the military telling Allison what fluid they intend to run, for their convienence, and that Allison will agree to sanction it's use if it likes building transmissions for the military. Since it...

all over the road with 14.5s

Flipped hubs in the rear shouldn't matter all that much. If it feels like it wants to 'dart' in different directions as you steer then I'd suspect the toe-in adjustment being off. If the adjustment is off, then as you steer and the vehicle's weight shifts slightly with road surface variables...

all over the road with 14.5s

Bjorn's right. In case you don't already know this one, a quick way to check toe-in is this little trick; Park on a flat area, making sure the front tires are pointing straight ahead. Truck shut off, in neutral with the parking brake set (don't wanna read about you in some later post) jack up...

all over the road with 14.5s

Might want to give the whole front end from the steering wheel down a complete check; toe-in, caster, camber along with play in kingpins and ball joints just to be sure everything's right there. Does your steering feel loose or does it feel like it's 'hunting'? If you went from bias ply to...
