I'm pretty sure he isn't going to have a heavy load in the bed, I understand where you are coming from but look at it realistically. Provided he is not hauling anything, a short 30 mile trip on only 6 tires, 2 of which are in original configuration -- the front axle, the other 4 are supporting...
you should look up www.offroaddesign.com as far as your tire woes go, They specialize in full size chevy trucks. Maybe you will find just what you need within your budget to stuff 35's under it.
ouverson engineering has complete axle seal kits, run about $100 an axle. I got a set for each axle since I unfortunately have all 3 axles leaking, just a heads up if you want to go that route.
I had tried to air the tire up, but the air was escaping almost as fast as it was going in, The truck never came with any lug wrenches, and I figured I wouldnt be doing any good without a torque multiplier, the bottle jack that came with the truck needs fluid as well, I already knew that though.
had to call out a service truck to get it changed, and when they tried to fire up their air compressor, the rip cord... well, ripped. He had to call his boss out with another cord, it was not a good time.
so, I was on a little road trip and wound up screaming down some old back roads. I got up to too much speed hitting a 25 mph corner a little fast, putting the deuce in a... well.. drift so to speak. After comming out of the corner I realized that the truck was pulling to the side, and the...
So I finally got around to doing an oil change on the deuce and after running it around the block i proceeded to check for leaks... and found one. It is the gasket on top of the canister under the hold down bolt, replacing it will be easy as pie, however I cannot find a part number for said...
When I redid mine, I just trimmed boards to size, and crammed everything into place, the metal uprights do a good job of making the bows... well.. bow.
On a side note as to sympathy to your pain, after redoing my bows, I was backing up to a tree in my front yard with the tail gate dowm, and...
what about a spool with a lockout hub on the axle, have 1 drive tire for normal driving, then flip the switch and have all the traction on one axle that you need, still have the other rear axle helping you keep tracking straight.
I needed a vehicle that could get me to walmart to buy batteries for my TV remote.
Really, I just wanted one and managed to convince the wife.
I have planned on building one when I return from deployment using no less than 1/2 inch steel plates, and 3/8 wall tubing, then figured that in the process the existing bumper may need to be reinforced and boxed in for added strength. But then again, I am an overkill kinda guy.
since this issue, I ran the tank down and filled it up with a 75% WMO to 25% diesel and the truck ran fine. I later put straight WMO and still ran fine, with the exception of a little power loss in the top end. I have ran that tank out and filled up with straight diesel and am still running...
I drive mine every now and then. I took it to our squadrons pre-deployment brief and had all the officers completely wowed. The XO was wondering who's it was, now he knows...
