...just tried..
Got a chance to call IT and left a message about wanting to title a couple vehicles. Since Los Vegas is 3-hrs. behind me in time, thought I might get a call back as I called about 5:45PM (EST). I concur with earlier post...get the USPS involved,as this is truly a case of mail...
...easier than that...
HAD to get an M172A1 to haul my FV432 APC (avatar),as it is 30K and almost 9" wide. The M172A1 is 115" (9'7") and does require a 'wide-load' permit. The permits are available on a one-time basis or a yearly fee. In Indiana,I can drive a semi with my M172A1 without a CDL...
....welcome...
WELCOME to SS,Zack. Best advice is to read the several threads in the posts on TRANSPORTATION. If you can check oil, other fluids, drive belts, tire pressure and general operation...and are a reasonably knowledgeable mechanical person...there should not be any problem you could not...
...complete tear-down...?
Looks like you are in for a complete tear-down and frame-up restoration. Whew...! Hope you have an indoor place to do it...not an easy task, but good luck in your endeavor....nopics
...a list...?
How about a list of SS members who are 20-30 mi. either side of your planned route...? I'd rather depend on some like-minded kindred souls that will be able to provide moral support, tech assistance and maybe a ride...if needed. Of course,it also makes sense to be prepared for...
...good point...
Excellent point,Jeep Man...but it's about 15 degrees out and there is nowhere I can drive this track/truck/trailer combo to get to a hose-down. Besides...once it was wet, everything would freeze up...solid...LOL. Will wait until I get it off the trailer and can go thru it and...
...what he said...
Yeah...and it also pays dividend's to speak with all your close neighbor's. I just moved to a 'country' retreat on 13 acres. Have spoken with everyone east of me (6-residences) and working on those on the west. So far...all are gun owners, don't mind hearing gunfire..they all...
...'daily driver'...?
...LOL....With all due respect. The Brits are notorious for their 'finicky' MV's. Yep...they are cheaper and more accessible than US MV's...but are more expensive to maintain and operate. Try an older Jag or Rolls-Royce....just an example. And I own both a Ferret and an...
....stay focused...
A MV is much more than a 'daily-driver'. It's a piece of history...it's an investment for use in perilious times...and it tells people you have a 'military mind-set'. In other words....you have made a statement. It's like owning a Harley-Davidson...if you have to explain it...
...on ebay..
Check the trailers on ebay. I've been looking for a 10-12 ton trailer myself for my half track (20K lbs.). Got the 25-ton M172A1....but have to get 'wide-load' permits to use it every time. Great for the FV432 APC...but over-kill for the half track. So a pintle-type 10-12 ton would...
...like an M105 trailer..
Believe that the 'water-buffalo's' used the M105 frame. When you get it home, get one of the kids to scrub the interior with bleach and water. Make sure you tie a rope around whoever you send in...so you can get them out if the fumes get to them....LOL. Or have them...
....(SALUTE) to all who reply...
Thank you,gentlemen...appreciate the replies and the thoughts. I just hope word of this will get out among the SS brotherhood. The piece may surface and can be readily identified. Your continued vigilance is asked for and will be rewarded.
...last option...?
Just S. of Three Rivers,MI and have the truck/trailer combo (Freightliner and an M172A1 25-ton trailer) to make this haul. Will email member with my #...
...pic's...
Trying to get the best shot I can of the periscope...
Notice the periscope on top of turret between the open hatch on the right and the turret body. It is similar to the ones on the Ferret...
Reluctently, after snooping around and asking about this,I must report that the top periscope on my FV432 APC was stolen during the MVPA Ropkey Museum meet in Sep. Someone unscrewed 3 of the 4 cap screws and then either broke the corner off the scope or jimmied it out,as the front left cap screw...
....light-weight...
Very nicely done....!!! I like the hardtop especially. Would a radio truck bed fit on the track frame...? Like the type used on the Duce...? Imagine the weight would be a lot less than the 21K+ of my M16 with the Quad Mount....LOL....
...loooong way from the LVT's
Just looking...OK...DROOLING at this make's me lust for a water-borne assault MV. It pains me to see that the Marine's...especially the MARINE'S...do not/will not take care of their...OUR EQUIPMENT...!!! Sure is different than when I was in. If any of our (Air...
...older=harder to get into...
You may fit into the Ferret...but getting in and out is another story. Agree that your size will be difficult to squeeze into thru the front hatch...but it also depends on how 'agile' you are and how much pain your joints will take. Learn how to go in thru the...
...end of confusion...
Might want to open up the right side of the hood. The block and exhaust manifold will both have 'White' in the standard script writing on them. There is no substitute for correct ID....LOL....
