The holes on the quarter and tailgate were where the outside tire carrier used to be mounted.
The USAF MIGHT have added the brush guard and bumper from a CUCV, but I doubt they would have put that rear bumper on it or moved the tire inside the truck from the rear. I also forgot to mention that...
Update:
Got the glow plugs working today. They didn't work at first, the controller would light the 'Wait' light but would not activate the relay. Tried both controller cards and they both did the same thing. After doing some wiring checks and making sure the wires were all good, I finally did...
That would be a civilian K5, probably a former government vehicle, but not a CUCV. It is missing the second battery on the passenger's side, the shackle mounts, interior is the wrong color, and the previously mentioned missing slave cable and black out light on the grille. It also had all of its...
RE: FAQ Thread for CUCV
The wiring diagram for the CUCV glow plug system are incorrect. If you are replacing a missing Glow Plug Relay, the small orange wire goes to the glow plug side of the relay, not the resistor side as shown on the wiring diagram. If it is on the resistor side, the...
It should make it just fine. Just make sure that the power steering belt is there and tight and that will keep it cool. I ran mine for about an hour at idle with no problems on just the batteries.
Since it was missing parts, make sure that all the fluids are there. That includes diffs and PS...
Yep, it runs like a top. The right fender and door are bent up pretty good so I think it was scrapped for that. I've been working on it all day and I got the alternator belts back on and they both work and charged the batteries back up. Then I tackled the glow plug system and it seems to work...
I'm so happy I just have to post about it.... I got the first of the two residue trucks that I bought from GL started!!! :jumpin: :jumpin:
It runs great with no strange noises and no smoke from the tailpipes. I'm still sorting out the wiring so I can make sure that the glow plug system and...
Does the controller see the same voltage that the glow plugs see? I thought the controller only handled switching the relay which would isolate the controller from the 24v.
I have a question about the glow plug system... has anyone tried to put the HMMWV 24v glow plugs in the CUCV and bypassed the resistor block to put 24V to the GPR? Would that be an effective way to eliminate the over-voltage burnout of the plugs?

I've got all the TMs, but nothing replaces first hand experience...
My new 816 has an EXTREMELY low pedal. It stops about an inch (or less) above the floor so I'm assuming it's either REALLY low on fluid or needs to be bled.
Is bleeding the brakes on the 5 tons the same as anything else, or do...
There's a junkyard out here that has LOTS of older cars in it... If you need a gas tank, let me know and I'll see if the guy has one. The old man doesn't answer the phone much, but I have good luck dropping by and catching him.

Durabak says that you can spray it yourself with undercoating spray guns... I'm probably going to give that a try with my CUCV Suburban project.
