Actually so was mine, but Ken who helped me get it running suggested we wire it, IIRC. In my case (and likely yours too) it doesn't move easily at all, so was not prone to jumping around. I think safety wiring is just a good idea--lot of vibration in these machines.
I think the pumps are the same... I'd not try to swap in the bits and pieces for a precision set, there are a number of things that must be changed out. I've a injection pump from a precision model (or at least I was told it was a precision model) and it looks identical to my utility model...
I think what R Racing is looking at is that the 400 Hz model is a precision setup (with a hydraulic governor) and the 60 Hz are utility units with the straight mechanical governor.
To use it commercially you'd have to make sure you met all DOT rules (would not want to fail a DOT road-side inspection, for example.) This may be difficult to do, you would have to change the lighting (add ID lights front and rear for example) and there are probably other things that may need...
I've got to wonder how much protection my metal building provides? It blocks cell phone reception very well (with the doors closed.)
One think is remember that it is EMP, and the M is magnetic. That magnetic pulse can induce currents in something that is fully metal shielded if it is strong...
Good photos! I'd suspect you could 'adapt' the shorter one in a pinch (drill a couple of holes marking the 'correct' level points) if you needed.
Also check TSC (Tractor Supply) especially their catalog. They have some rather odd batteries that they can get (but may not stock in the stores) and you may find some that are more compatible with your unit without dropping a bunch of money on the specified ones. (Yea, I got my MEP-004's...
Not OAL, but the length from the full mark and the point where the dip stick bottoms out in the tube, and the distance between full and empty. Both of these measurements are important, but the overall length is not. Unless you confirm the marks are in the same relative positions there is a...
Humm, a -10 manual? I have:
TM 9-6115-464-12
TM 9-6115-464-24
TM 9-6115-464-34
but no -10!
Ah, found it... Thanks Igor at www.liberatedmanuals.com, that was an easy one. Of course it didn't quite answer where the recommended storage location for the slide was, so I'm going to just use the...
Don't confuse loaded state with idling... You can't idle the engine (run it at less than the specified RPMs) because that will damage the regulator. This happens because the regulator tries to force the generator head to put out rated voltage, but the speed is insufficient to do that, and so the...
Well, the Weare NH show as kind to me...
I found a slide hammer for the ground rods, at a very good price ($15, it was new). Now, I don't think the MEP004 was originally supplied with the slide hammer, but if it was, where would it have been stored? Won't (obviously) fit in the ground rod box...
AFAIK, the MEP002/003 fuel filters are not the same. The fuel filter on the MEP004 is larger (IIRC) and I suspect the oil filter is different as well. The MEP004/005 and probably the 006 should be the same. :)
Sounds a bit odd, doesn't it... Check to see if you have any power at the utility outlet. I don't think it needs to be flashed (you do know how to start them, which since the gauges don't work is really hard!)
I agree, this is way cool... I have used these controllers in the past, with good results (not controlling a generator, but would do that just fine). They are very reliable (the one I have has been tough) generally. And what I like is that the prices are very attractive as well... I'd wondered...
If you are lucky... (wish everyone was)
Remove glow plugs.
Pour in a small amount of 50/50 mixed ATF and Acetone. Turn engine so the pistons are down if possible.
Lightly screw in the glow plugs to prevent evaporation.
Let sit for a day or two or three.
Remove glow plugs.
Try to pry the...
If you have a clamp-on ammeter, that may help you greatly in seeing if there is an 'external' load on the generator head. Check each of the leads coming out of the head to the control panel. This won't help if the head itself is shorted, but will help if there is a problem elsewhere. OK, this is...
The MEP-004's "factory" load bank is positioned in front of the radiator to allow the engine's fan to cool it. An excellent idea considering just how much heat it can produce. I think, for three phase, that three oven elements would make a good load bank, and it should not be that hard to mount...
