OK, for the MEP-004 with the 198 Hercules (White) four cylinder diesel:
(1) Remove fuel injector nozzle from No. 1 cylinder.
(2) Turn the engine over until the 20 degree before top dead center (BTDC) mark on the flywheel is lined
up with the timing mark on the flywheel housing, and No. 1...
What I did was to make (two) three phase transfer switches. These are the circuit by circuit type, one has six circuits and the other ten. The transfer switches then distribute the loads in those 16 circuits between the three phases of the generator.
Up side: no modifications to the generator...
To help figure out which is in to the filter, and which is out, on your next oil change do this.
Fill the engine with oil. Using a breaker bar, spin the engine over in the same direction that it normally runs. Watch the oil filter, and you should see oil come up one of the filter lines. My...
Uh, you do know that the revenuers are now using night vision goggles, right? :jumpin:
That 'said' (and laughing too) check superbright LED's web site, they may have what you need. I know that IR illuminators are available in LED versions...
Not wishing to get in to a long debate regarding bypassing filters, at least the units I work with (MEP-004As) the filter bypass is built into the 'bolt' that runs down the center of the filter. Look carefully at that (hollow) bolt and you will see that there is a spring and a valve which serves...
Keith, you are 100% correct. My brain was set on gas engines when I made that post! (OK, I'm an idiot in this thread!) :jumpin: The only time a diesel engine develops CO is when it is heavily loaded...
I'd still plumb it above the roof myself anyway, for the other reason: smell! My MEP-004A...
If you do this, please have a good friend or relative, who is not living with you, post the outcome. Running such a generator in the garage with that type of exhaust system strikes me as utterly foolish.
The only acceptable (and marginally, at that) would be one that meets code, so would have...
As to running kero, I do know that for the MEP-004a (and I'd guess 005/006 too) there is a advisory in the manual to only use it if there is no other choice. IIRC, this also says that jet fuel is not optimal.
I believe that lubricity is the main issue, so adding some lubricant (say perhaps...
Jerry, do make sure the insulation in that freezer is not highly flammable foam! Many insulating foams when burning release toxic smoke, so close to the house might be very risky.
:-P Yep, that did look big!
No question you can use 'big' ventilation fans to keep the air moving in and out of the shed, so that should not be a big problem. I'd recommend locating the shed far enough from any other buildings that it minimizes the fire hazard risk as well.
I recall someone...
Search for a post of mine regarding MEP-004 filters. IIRC the filters in the 004. 005 and the 006 are the same. Fuel and oil filters are (or should be) available from CarQuest and NAPA.
I've got to second everything that ETN550 is saying. Double check the glow plugs for operation, and as well the cranking speed must be correct or it won't start.
I also don't feel you can do a meaningful compression test on an engine that has been sitting for a while.
I suspect we all have our favorite mix... I use generic ATF and diesel fuel, about a 50/50 mix. If you can keep it from evaporating then a mix of ATF, diesel and some acetone can be even more potent (but acetone does evaporate quickly). In that case I'd mix 40/40/20.
The idea behind these...
Actually it means excessive current, not resistance. Generally, excessive resistance causes current to drop, and less heat is generated.
I suspect there is a possibility he has gotten two bad starters.
Interesting solution. I'd like to see a picture, but on the other hand, isn't there something in the vehicle code that says the safety chains need to go to the hitch proper, and not the receiver? IIRC, that is to keep the trailer with the towing vehicle if the receiver fails completely.
I *think* the problem may be the safety chains are too short, and that is one aspect to the problem that I'm looking at. The fact that one can bend a relatively big piece of steel without knowing it does somewhat scare me! I think my next step will be to lengthen the chains a couple of links...
Just to raise the dead (thread) the other day I bent my adapter (identical to the one in post #35)! There is this thread, and another (I think on SS, I'm searching...) about bending these things. The other thread the guy posting says "doesn't know what happened" and I though, that's very odd, he...
Virtually all appliances will work in the 50 to 60 Hz range without problems. Only a very few are sensitive to frequency. However, things like built-in clocks etc, will be inaccurate whenever the frequency deviates from the 60 Hz standard. (But OTOH, no clock should be trusted when being powered...
