I ran 75-80 in CUCVs all the time in Germany on the 'bahn running between Mannheim and Ramstein. The sloppy steering was more of a concern than the engine speed IMHO. Of course, that was because of crappy maintenance, not completely the fault of the truck.

RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Suburban K20/CUCV M1008 morphing project
I believe this is incorrect. According to several sources online, the 454 was available in 3/4 ton Subs from 73-91.
The handiest I've found to quote ATM is car-part.com which lists the 350, 6.2 and 454 as options during that period...
RE: Re: RE: NHC250 starter lock-out switch
IIRC it is also there to prevent overspeed damage the starter after the engine fires if the switch is held in the start position too long.

RE: Re: M35 Engine options
If I was going to do a repower with a good budget, I'd use an older (mid-late 90s) 6CTA8.3 with the inline mechanical pump and water aftercooler. 325-350HP setting with good fuel mileage. Not hotrodded, it would hold up for years to come.

Just to clarify for me since I'm still learning, I thought the -1C in the engine model number designates that it has (or was originally equipped with) the C turbo?
Thanks,
Joe
So I've been looking for a MV that would suit my needs and serve a purpose in my fleet other than a really big OD toy (finances don't support such things at this time) and decided that a wrecker would be really useful. Only thing is that a 5 Ton would be huge overkill (unless the finance thing...
Reviving an old thread because I just ran into this with my car hauler.
DOT does not require not-for-hire operators to retrofit reflective tape on their trailers. It is, however, recommended for safety reasons. The legal answer I got was that to meet DOT regulations for commercial use, the...
Yep, that's what it looked like to me, but I wasn't sure. I was a genset mechanic in the Air Force. I'm just getting up to speed on the differences between stationary and mobile.

I know it will be a big job, but this is all I've got...
Pull the adapter plate (The part you're calling 'bellhousing') and see if the seal is pressed into there. It looks like it is in the picture.
You could try to remove the seal with the adapter still on the engine, but without knowing if...
Neutral on transfer only, tranny in park if you're worried about hubs engaging. Don't mean to be rude with the emphasis, but it's this important:
DO NOT TOW WITH BOTH THE TRANSFER CASE AND TRANSMISSION IN NEUTRAL! DOING SO WILL CAUSE SEVERE DAMAGE TO THE TRANSMISSION.
Thanks for the welcome...
His statment was that if you are flat towing for a short distance, put the transfer in neutral and the trans in park. With the trans in neutral and the transfer in neutral, the transmission can turn and wear out the internals because the oil pump is on the input shaft which won't be turning...
FWIW, its designation is K-500 flightline refueler. It has a 58K GVW and a 22.8K empty weight.
It is on a Dodge CNT800 chassis and was phased out in favor of the R-9 Mack Refueler.

For temporary use you can hook up to either L1 L2 or L3 lug and L0 to get single phase (120VAC) power. I wouldn't recommend it for high amperage (40% or more rated load) prolonged use because it will overheat the windings on the leg, but in a pinch it will work.
When I was in the Air Force, we...
