RE: Re: Heat?
There's a guy in Lamar CO who has a salvage yard full of military vehicles (see post in 'Salvage Yard Info'). I'd get the correct box before you modify one. I'd even be willing to go down and get the box to trade for the correct one for my truck.
PM me if interested.
I found a military salvage yard in Lamar CO today. Bunch of deuces, lots of 800 series 5 tons, a couple of 900s 1 FMTV + extra cab, and 6 HEMTTs - 3 w/ cargo beds. He also had some M37s and other stuff around.
He even had a 10 ton... I finally got to see one up close and MAN are they...
Any particular reason for the Mack over the Cummins?
Got back from looking at the M816 today, he has two and I operated the nicer one, but it blew a bearing in the rear power shaft as I was putting the boom back to the travel position.
It's a soft top with no heater, but I might be able to...
Re: RE: Wrecker advice needed
Yep, it's just for picking stuff up, moving my junk around and personal recoveries.
I should have pics of the one I'm going to look at this afternoon when I get back.
Oh, Oshkosh Equipment e-mailed me back and said that they have this BII kit for sale for...
I do realize that you get what you pay for and I'm having the age old debate of do I build it myself and know what's been done to it or do I hope the people who worked on it before did it right?
I am going to see the 816 today, the others are pictures and telephone calls
As far as service, the...
I am looking at a few different options for purchasing a wrecker and wanted some other opinions before I pull the trigger on one. I know only I can make the final decision, but outside input is always nice. Here is the list of what I have access to and price is not the only deciding factor:
M62...
Either that, or the crane is torqued down to the frame causing the deflection.
BTW, the trucks are in SD near the ND border on the west side.
Later,
Joe
During my search for a wrecker, I came across this one and thought I'd pass it along. It's a gasser tractor wrecker. Says it runs and moved under its own power a while ago and I'm trying to get more specifics on price and running condition.
I'm talking to him about the M62 sitting beside it for...
But on the other hand, they're not used as often either so they aren't beat to heck and back.
I will agree that vehicle priority is lower for non flying units, I was in Civil Engineering and we had some crappy trucks because we were lowest on the vehicle totem pole.
LOL....

And here they are installed in a truck:

Well, the door markings are NOT 100%, my unit in Germany back in 1994 had M923/5s and our markings were on the bumpers. We had the unit markings on top and the Reg number on the bottom.
The clean 'license plate' spot on the back leads me to believe that it was an AF truck, lots of units do that...
Yes, it's on e-bay and is $4795 and he's firm on it. I think that's a bit high, but he feels that he can part it out for more than that. It does run and operate, but it has been sitting for a year and has no title.
It's just one of those, it's in my price range but I think it's priced too high.
Yes, it would be for personal use and the occasional recovery of my own vehicles. What do you think it would be worth? A range would be sufficient since I know an exact figure would be difficult without seeing it.
Also, do you think it would be worthwhile to repower it to a LDS or other diesel...
