I don't think phases were mentioned in this thread, but yes they are 3-phase. Fully usable for 'single phase' 120/208 service, slightly derated however. As well, some transfer switches (the ones with individual switches for each circuit) can be wired to a three phase generator easily--that's...
As a fellow MEP-004 owner, all I can say is "Win, win, win."
Great price for the unit, and that it works is fantastic. In addition to this wonderful site, there is smokstak.com which has a military generator forum as well. Most of us here, are there too.
Or possibly the crankcase ventilation hose is plugged. I've seen that happen on small engines and it creates interesting problems both the oil drains very slowly, and as well you get oil consumption and leaking.
Course it could turn out to be a bad valve too!
There is a company called "ClearSpan" with a web site. The fabric they use for their (fabric) building makes excellent tarps, and they sell 'odd-ball' pieces at a great price (at least in their printed catalog). I've been using the stuff for years (got about 6K feet of it from an air-dome that...
Another option is to get the PDF files, and take them to one of the stores (such as Staples, or Office Depot) who can do two-sided printing...
Printing your own gives you control over the paper quality (old paper for manuals was not the best quality sometimes).
I'm better off than many...
I agree with Rosco, I'd solder it, either with an iron or a torch. (I'm good with a torch so that's usually what I use for big jobs, but a big iron would work.) To solder you need to get the area completely clean, and have NO rust/corrosion present, just bright shiny steel or whatever it is...
Could be just condensation. Not unusual, especially under the cap.
Again, condensation is commonly the cause of this and can be very common.
Likely the seal on the glass (or the rear connectors) is bad.
Could be anything, I sure would not panic on that yet!
There is no basis for that...
There is nothing that not having the ground rod would prevent it from generating power. The ground rod is a safety issue, to prevent the generator/trailer from becoming electrically live and resulting in a shock hazard should you touch it when running and you are grounded (in the event of a...
When starting, hold the start/run switch on the start position until the volt meter reads approximately the correct voltage. That should solve your problem. I realize if you are not experienced in starting generator sets, that feels wrong, but it isn't. The engine has a device that cuts off the...
Well, I do see two problems here:
1. Never ever idle a generator set. The regulator will try to create full output voltage, and at idle that is impossible. Result is that the regulator will burn out because it is trying to do the impossible.
2. Never disconnect a battery from a running...
I run 15W-40 in all my diesel engines (Rotella) year round. My generator, in the winter, is in my shop so it doesn't get all that cold, and in the summer around here in NH, it doesn't get all that hot either. (Of course another factor is that I'm not buying a bunch of different oil weights, too.)
OK, see your direction now... If I were in your shoes, I'd start by looking at alternative energy generation methods, such as wind turbines or maybe water. (Wind is sometimes not there, and water dries up sometimes, but both can be relatively free other than the cost of equipment.)
I'll say...
I also am unaware of any multi-fuel generator sets. My MEP-004 is diesel, or JP-1. It says kero can be used, but may cause damage--use only only in emergencies I believe the manual says.
You can't get diesel where you live? Around here, every gas station has diesel as well...
I've posted CarQuest numbers, and possibly numbers for other makers (Fram?) in other threads, and a search for MEP-004 filters is what you need to do. The filters in the MEP-004 and the MEP-005 are identical. FWIW, CarQuest locally carries a couple (probably for me...) and if the store doesn't...
Wow, I sure hope that is not an attached garage.
There are so many things wrong with doing this that I don't know where to start. Fire hazard. CO hazard. Theft hazard. and likely more.
At a minimum, CO detectors, and fire/smoke detectors are needed. And that's only if it is not attached...
Winded? Naw, clipping the quote fixes that! :-D
Do you have the ability to check the compression? If so that would tell you whether the glow plugs are keeping it running. Personally, I doubt it, but it is possible. Eventually (two or three starts in a row) things should have gotten warm enough...
Easier yet, click on the user's name on the right of a post, and in the drop down menu, select "Send a private message to..." and all is good. You don't even have to remember how to spell is ID!
