your 16 inch wheels
I found a place here in Louisiana that sells steel wheels with a tire for $13.00 each. You just walk around and pull offf the wheels or other parts that you need and take them home.
This is a very common 16 inch wheel and should not be too hard to find.
This yard is called...
Check your rims (wheels). You may have to clean them real good around the stem area but they are stamped with the size and some other data as well which does not mean too much.
You should see something like 16 x 7.5 JJ or similiar.
If you have 16.5 stamped into the wheel then they are not...
M35A2C trucks
It seems that the drop side trucks have a problem with rust under the sides of the beds.
More than one that I looked at had rust or rust repairs in the corners.
I assume that the moisture gets trapped under the sides and does not get a chance to dry out due to long term sitting as...

Here they are again. Right click and "save as" to your desktop or where ever you prefer and then open.
Otherwise they will or could take a long time to open directly from this site.

tow bar
I'm not and engineer but I have a suttle comment.
Wouldn't round 4130 tubing be better than square tube?
Not trying to put down anyones work here just and only a question.
Any engineers out there???????????
4130 is what all the old tubular aircraft frames were made of.
I...
trailer modification
I performed this task out of necessity.
I had a M105 but no axle or wheels and I had a M101 axle.
What I did was to remove the bottom two leaves of the springs since they are only held by the center pin.
I next widened the axle to the proper width using procedures for...
extra loud ping.
I have heard of th low sulfer fuel doing this but I am no diesel expert.
You might consider a fuel additive to improve lubricity of the fuel.
Also check the "rough timing" of the injection pump.
The top of the engine has a timing mark and so does the pump.
The lines should...
PM Magazine blurb on engine oil level
This is from a PM magazine on how to properly check the oil in the engine

Deuce oils
Shell Rotella-T is an excellent oil for the engine.
NAPA sells the GL-5 oil in 5 gallon pails.
See the picture of the pail here in this post.
I would take 2 gallons of engine oil and one pail of geargox oil.
Three axles, trannmission, & transfer case all take the same oil...
oil capacities, etc.
Go to the resources section on this S.S. site.
Scroll to LO 9-2320-209-12-1, right click on it and then left click on save as.
Save it to your desk top or where ever you are wanting to store it.
It has all the capacities of the gearboxes, engine, etc. plus the grease...
towing the M1009
If you will be towing the M1009 on several different occasions like me, you can do something else.
What I did was to go under the hood and splice in a four pin trailer connector used for civy units. This only disconnect the rear lights.
When I need to tow my CUCV I simply...
On my M35A2C the vents are all on the right side about 6 or 8 inches to the right of the differentials.
They have a miniature tin can (about 3/8 inch in diameter) that is swaged upside down on them with a small piece of rubber and a spring inside.
They get clogged full of mud and stop working...
tranny oil
Put your index finger (first finger next to your thumb) in the hole to the first joint and point down.
If and when your finger tip gets wet, it has enough oil. :-P
Hey Gringle, PM or e-mail me, I have a brake question for a master brake man.
Jim
jimm1009
Go to the first knuckle on your index fingure. Don't actually fil-to-spill or it is slightly overserviced.
Jim
PS: I can send a picture of the actual pail if you give me an e-mail adress but all the info is in above post.
tranny oil
O.K. Here is the information off the 5 gallon pail from NAPA.
White bucket with blue and silver lettering.
part number SUS52
Super-S 80W-90 Gear Oil
GL-5
It does not say on the bucket that it is good for Yellow Metal so I had BAPA call the manufacturer and they stated that...
your tranny oil
Use GL-1 or GL-5 with Yellow Metal Compatability.
Napa sells it in 5 gallon pails. Same oil for the axles and transfer case too.
If you pick GL-5 make sure it is good for yellow metal.
I'll look for my bucket and post again when I have the part number off the pail.
Jim
