    Deuce road tractor conversion

I would think the spare should be on the passenger side of the truck. Imagine you are changing a tire on the side of the road and the spare gets away from you. Which is better, having it roll into some bushes, or having it roll out into traffic? The spare is mounted in the correct direction...

    DirtBag Fall 2011 ???

Sounds like a recipe for "fire in the hole", if you know what I mean. :)

    stuck oil drain plug?

Oh yes, I ran into this before. The first time I changed the oil in my deuce the drain plug was as tight as you described. I got the plug off, but four months later I was having hernia surgery.

    Cross country time!

Also, I would avoid I-8 at this time of year if you don't have A/C. The temps are probably 5 to 15 degrees hotter than I-40/I-15 and the humidity is probably a little higher as well.

    Cross country time!

You might want to consider travelling at night in the desert southwest. It's been 105 degrees and above for a daytime high in Barstow recently. The low at night is around 75.

    Can't shift into 3rd

Another possibillity, are you sure your clutch is releasing completely? A dragging clutch will cause the same symptoms.

    Can't shift into 3rd

The M37 has syncromeshed gears, except for first gear (and reverse, of course). If you have to double clutch in order to switch gears, then the transmission might need to be rebuilt. First, pull up the cab floor and pull off the transmission top. You could just have bent or misadjusted shift...

    Brake light switch replacement

ARRGH! I have one of the new switches in my parts bin and didn't recognize what it was! I recently replaced my bad hydraulic brake light switch with another one. In 41 years, if I'm still around and the new hydraulic switch fails, I will convert to the air switch. Thanks for the write up!

    Newbie from downunder

Hello Matt, I have a friend near me who has a WC-1 closed cab pickup. He is pretty much an expert on the 1/2 ton Dodges. I can either relay any questions for you, or if you shoot me a PM with your e-mail address, I can put you in touch with him. Welcome to Steel Soldiers! Matt in SoCal

    New M38a1 project

Hi Doug, See if the information you need is in these photos. Let me know if you have any questions about this. Edit: I just re-read your question again. Like SturmTyger380 said, you don't need the vertical rods unless you are planning on installing doors. I'm not even sure I have the...

    Whistler's Mother

I'm not a huge bobber fan, but I do love the name of your truck!

    New M38a1 project

Hey Doug, this is a great thread with great pictures. Thanks for posting everything. I have a 1964 M38A1. I don't have overdrive, so I don't usually push it over 45 MPH. I just drove it Saturday to a truck club picnic. I knew the parking there would be a little tight for the deuce. I always...

    It's a m309!

What a cool idea. I do get the gut feeling that the axle on the trailer has to be moved back some.

    pumping lake water

The formula to find a circle's area : π×(radius)2 usually expressed as Πr2 where r is the radius of a circle. So if you have a 2 inch diameter inlet, the radius would be 1 inch, and the area would be: 3.14 X (1 X 1) = 3.14 square inches. Now if you drilled a 1/2 inch hole in your PVC pipe...

    pumping lake water

I rented a civilian pump similar to this to pump out the green swimming pool at a house my son was renting. Home Depot gave me two outlet hoses instead of the correct suction hose. Just like your experience, the pump sucked the hose flat. When I went back and found someone who knew what they...

12volt needs a jump. Can I do it with the M1009 blazer?

To be really safe, use the front battery to jump, but have the CUCV turned off. You only need the 12 volt battery to jump, not any output from the CUCV's alternator.

    m35a3 normal operating temperature

This makes me feel much better. I was running about 215 degrees on a hard mountain climb last weekend. As soon as I topped the pass, the temperature dropped nicely back to 180 degrees.

So I had this crazy idea, how about this for an engine for my A3...

I am kicking myself for reading all the way to the end of this thread! :-(

    Cross country trip?

It's going to be a hot drive until you pull into San Diego. There are plenty of Steelsoldiers along the way should you need any help.

started to replace seals on the deuce

Man, that truck has been abused! It's pictures like this that keep me from mudding or driving my vehicles through deep water. Good luck on the repairs.
