    Yet another alternator question...

Is it safe/normal for a stock (ish) M1008 to be able to start and operate with only one alternator mounted? What issues (other than battery drainage) could arise from continuing to operate the vehicle in this manner? Also, how the heck is this even possible?

Lake Charles M1008 needs thorough check-up

Hey y'all, been a long time since I've posted. Now that I'm back in the free world, I am looking for some local assistance from someone who is competent in working on a CUCV. I'd like someone who is capable of a top-to-bottom check so I can drive safely. This thing sat in my parent's back...

Gen 1 light stays on but REAR battery not charging?

Even with searching and reading, I am confused by this. My understanding is that the rear battery is charged by Gen 2 (passenger side) and the front battery is charged by Gen 1 (driver side). Did I get this mixed up? My rear battery is not charging while the M1008 is running. I can plug it...

    Any Bradley/M113/557/etc. owners in GA

Hey dudes and dudettes, One of my old units [specifically B Co. 3/15 Infantrym 3ID (M)] is having their 10 year Iraqi Invasion reunion this coming March. As much as I want to be there, circumstances far beyond my control will keep me from attending. If any of y'all want to show off some of...

    KUDOS to oldmechanic!

A great dude to deal with. He has helped me stay on the road and kept my CUCV alive. What's just as awesome- if he isn't available, he sends someone that's capable of handling the job. Thank you for keeping my green machine alive, buddy! [thumbzup]

Requesting mechanical assistance in Ft. Polk area

My water pump seems to have commited suicide. I have a replacement (reman) from NAPA in hand, but lack the competency and confidence to do this by myself. If anyone is interested in making some post-Christmas cash, give me a shout. 3372029856 Also having passenger side generator issues. If...

Different shift pattern in regards to driving style?

I'm used to hitting that 3rd gear pretty early (25-30ish mph). It's a rare day that I drive much over 50mph. Takes me longer to get places, but I deal with it. Last week, for some reason I began accelerating from a full stop...rather quickly. It burned some rubber and took off like a dang...

The Saga Continues... M1008 front end reassembly

As some of you might recall, around September(ish) of last year my M1008 flipped me the bird. I suppose it was a mutual thing, as I failed at PMCS'ing the seals/fluids/etc. in relation to the front axle/steering system. Well, the "mechanic" STILL has my truck. I went by yesterday for a little...

Admitting the CUCV to the hopsital...

Admitting the CUCV to the hospital... and letting the professionals do it. With limited time, tools, and space, I finally (with some prodding from the higher ups) called a mechanic. Threads for reference- http://www.steelsoldiers.com/cucv/76386-lower-king-pin-bearing-cap-stuck.html...

Want to borrow/rent axle/diff case spreader in Louisiana...

Still can't get the gears out of the pumpkin of my M1008. I'm in Rosepine/DeRidder, LA. I can't afford to buy a spreader, but if anyone has one in the area I'm sure we could work out some form of compensation. Please reply here, or contact me at- justinhcannonATgmailDOTcom or...

Cleaning Inner Axle Funk- Dana 60.

As an extension project while doing a partial rebuild of my front end, I've noticed quite a bit of a mess inside the axle. I've included pictures looking through the "inner C's". When I pulled out the shafts, there was surface rust and dirt on them, so I'm going to replace all the seals as...

Lower King Pin Bearing Cap Stuck???

Trying to do a rebuild in accordance with my earlier thread, but can't get the dang thing off. I've soaked it in Kroll (sp?), smacked it with a hammer, and tried to pry it (can't get ANYTHING in between the knuckle and cap). I'm at a loss. I will be gathering all the information to create a...

    CUCV Help in/near Central Louisiana

This is the first time I've ever dealt with this problem on a vehicle before, so I'll to my best to explain what might be going on. I was on the way to pick up a new lower radiator hose and new water pump (just in case), and I noticed that something just didn't feel right at all. There was a...

Blackout/Drive Light Switch and Battery Life Question

Ladies and Gentlemen, Apologies if my search-fu has failed me, but just wondering if there's much of a connection between the two. After daylight driving, I've at times forgotten to turn of the switch (I drive with it on so I can use my blinkers and horn). My batteries haven't died yet, but I'm...

Death wobble + Doghead relay mod

Yesterday, I survived the dreaded "death wobble". It was quick. It was freaky. Then it ended. Hope it doesn't happen again and at a higher speed. On a positive note- I just (as within the last 5 minutes) did the doghead relay mod. This is the first time in my entire life that I have...

    M1008 towing M1009?

It's possible, right? What's the best way if you DON'T have a tow bar?

So, what's the deal with trailer prices? My weekend rant.

I'm not trying to step on anyone's tube, just curious. I understand free market awesomeness, supply/demand, and so on. However, I also believe in business ethics and the reality of "whatever is on the shelf isn't making you money". I learned that by managing a surplus shop in Texas. The reason...

    My first heartbreak...

with the cucv- I'm driving back from Alexandria (about a 1.5 hour journey) and I reach over to close my vent window. It's been rough, so I have to twist pretty hard to make it turn. CRAP. It now hangs only by the top hinge. At least it will close and "lock". Driving with it open is a...

Oklahoma City to Louisiana (6x 5gal water jugs)

Weight is 88 pounds. I can't get out of Louisiana. If anyone is willing to work something out, that'd be pretty awesome. I don't expect a hand off, but if there's a way someone could pick it up and ship it, you can keep two of the six cans and we'll figure it out from there. Please call 337...

Newbie needs help with a small part...

I'm in the process of purchasing a 1986 M1008. There was a small rubber part that has dry rotted. In Figure 14 (page 14-1 I suppose) of the "34-P" CUCV TM, it's part 9. Part Number is 22506637. Can't seem to find one on the net, and I'd rather keep deals between good folks. If anybody knows...
