Maybe you acquired a front axle to scavenge the "fast gears" so now you have an empty housing? Am look for one to cut/flip/weld for a reverse rotation application. Thanks!!
So is it a M1078 with a different cab or M715 with different motor + big tires? I read of a trucking company locally that wrecked a truck requiring a new cab; the paperwork follows the cab. So, Kaiser-Jeep it is.
Installed these yesterday. They fit the steelies but not the aluminum Hutchinsons. Could drill a pattern to match I suppose, though there would only be maybe 3 threads of stand-off engagement at the wheel.
My newest task is to gather M715 bits & pieces that are scattered over 7 acres then see how many that I can make whole. I would guess there are pieces of maybe 35 or 40 vehicles, so maybe I can build 20....we'll see.
I have been researching the '715 for two years now. So I have a good feel for what could be improved ; this is the wish list I compiled from M715 owners:
The Tornado engine is interesting....but a diesel would be the cat's meow, CAT 3116
The D60 front is obsolete and has D44-like knuckles...
As I drove around town today, getting a new Director's Certificate from the ADOT smog station, I reflected on all the mods I have made to the truck. Some stuff we do makes no difference, some stuff makes things worse, but here is a list of mods that I am really, really glad I did:
Upgrade the...
So the roll bar got a splash of color. And I center mounted a better crane. This one I can operate from the ground, and the boom extends much farther than the HF crane that was replaced. The crane mounts to re-purposed lifting extensions from the rear, mounted between the frame rails.
I had performed the "Ronmar front gladhand delete" with no issues. Removed the rear gladhands a long time ago by plugging the outputs of last valve in the train. You see, I plan to tow nothing nor get towed as if it was a trailer. Anyway, I was sitting in the cab with the truck running then...
Playing off of the standard 3116 starter thread: Is there a standard 3116 alternator that would be used on a 3116 in a loader excavator or dozer? A single voltage, 24 volt, maybe 50 amp or so? The availability of this part will support the reduced complexity approach I take with my build.
Stopping the bleeding.....over the last 5 years I have put at least 10K into this M1009 and I am done. Am focussing on the LMTV build. I traded the truck to Jack's Gov't Surplus in Tucson, so there it is.
Bed removed, spare tire elevator removed, batteries relocated to behind the rear axle, air tanks & dryer top side, spare rearward, fuel tank outta the way. Lots of details.
Mine made me pay for using the front tire as a scaffold. Banged up elbow + shoulder + ribs on the way down. Oooww. I'll be fine, back at it tomorrow, sore but wiser I reckon.
Am pulling the spare tire rack and tool box, man, there is a bunch of stuff back under there that clearly needs...
Plan is being executed for the roll cage fab, may as well share how stuff comes apart then goes back together.
A stripped out cab is en route to the fabricator (thank you, NV555). When the cage is finished, will swap the modified cab with mine.
No need for me to wonder what to do with my...
So what is most different, aesthetically, before and after?
Enclosing the back,
higher stance w/ the open tire tread pattern,
paint of course,
lotsa lights.
**Update Dec 12, 2018**
I have this same thread in three different places. To make it easier for me to maintain, the continuation will...
