I have a minor fuel drip when the fuel tank is over half full. It appears to be coming from the 3 lines that go to the top of the tank. I think they may be chafed.
I've just about got the fuel tank removed. This is the older style with the shaft line disc brake. The manual does not say to do it...
I knew the tape wasn't compatible. Didn't know the plug was threadless. Hm...
ETA: A photo shows that it has a philips head screw in the center. Is this an expandable plug? You turn the screw and the plug expands to fill the hole?
Ok, a new plug makes sense. What are the odds that the threads in the plastic tank will be ok?
Usually I wrap plugs like this in teflon tape or something but I'm not sure if diesel would eat that up.
Question:
I will drop my fuel tank (old style) this winter to repair some fuel line leaks.
If I remove the drain plug, what are the odds that it will properly seal up again when I reinstall the plug? Should I find another way to drain the tank?
Thanks.
I hit 3,000 miles so I did an oil change and all-around fluid check. The only thing amiss is the driver's front portal hub is wet. It's always been this way. The fluid level isn't really going down. I do have a seal kit and one of those Blue Hummer spindle lock nut kits for it.
The 3-lever...
I got to use H-L today.
We got about 10" of heavy, wet snow in mid/southern MD. After clearing the drive and walkways we took the HMMWV out because...HMMWV.
We shoveled all the snow on the vehicle, into the back of the vehicle with the snow that had already collected there to add more weight...
I finally got around to installing a square receiver hitch paired with the military pintle hitch.
I plan to buy an XM381.com converter box because I'm too lazy and too short on time to build my own. Here's my modest dilemma:
I've already tapped into the rear section of the body harness for...
I wired mine to the shifter to avoid unpleasant interactions with my state's ASED (safety inspectors.)
I didn't tap the shift illuminator for power though.
So, after you guys scared the crap out of me with the story of starter bolts snapping off, I crawled underneath and found that I have the mod with the support hook. One less thing to worry about.
I had mentioned a few times in this thread that I thought I had an toe alignment problem with my driver's rear wheel.
The problem manifested itself as chewing up the outer edge of the tire and looking like the whole tread might be thinking about separating from the tire.
I did the chalk and...
I picked up a 2-ton GI-issue jack yesterday as well as a good tire to replace my wonky tire.
Looks like only the 3.5 ton jack stows under the hood. I believe the under-seat straps for the jack are still present. I just don't want the jack to turn into a rusty pile of steel.
I also replaced my...
I thought the MTR's had very thin sidewalls and were undesireable, at least for off-roading? Or was that just earlier generations of that tire?
Jeeze, if you were near me I'd buy those MT's from you.
Oh- I scored a jack for a good price. I'll pick it up on Monday.
I have roadside assistance and towing but I've never liked driving around without a jack and a spare. We got a great truck but it was practically naked and missing all the gubbin's. Rounding up all these bits takes time and patience.
