I've had one run-in with a black bear, years ago on a canoe portage up in the Alguonquin Provincial Park. Lucky for me that bear was just as startled as I was, and sprinted off before I had time to think. If it had been "Grizz", I'd likely just be a scattered pile of scat in those Canada...

Oh, yeah; Griz is something to take seriously I'm told. I got an old hockey buddy who moved out to Alaska decades back, and he's been guiding wilderness trips there for over 30 years. He's pretty good I hear: http://www.wildernessalaska.com/ He told me once, how Griz if they get your scent...
