if you only followed my steps there should be no difference really in smoke as that rear adjustment is post-boost fueling only. You need to adjust the top screw for pre-boost fuel which is where it will make some smoke. I haven't changed mine yet.
I do need to play with my idle some more...

I just did the this modification to my 1989 M293A2. I went to participate in two Memorial Day parades this past weekend. The truck wouldn't maintain speed on modest hills - so I figured why not? I only made two changes - the governor spring and the full-fuel adjustment on the back of the pump...
Four turns, five turns - which adjustments are you making? The rear 10mm/14mm nut under the cover? The top screw? I'm assuming it isn't the governor springs since you mention turns not clicks.
