I’m glad to see a video on the entire procedure; it’s long over due. My set also had the mechanical governor tampered with. Kurt told me his two sample units were set to .793 and .765 for the top bolt protrusion and the side bolt was .0890 and .900. My set was at .936 for the top bolt and .928...
No. Instead put some outlets on the load side. Here is a picture of my setup. One 220v 2p outlet and two 15a 1p duplex outlets. I typically use the 220v outlet with a 50’ 10g RV cord. Now you can pull a pair of 15a circuits off the one cord.
There is a disproportional number of these units with governor problems. Thankfully the majority just need adjustment. Start by follow the procedure in the TM to adjust the pot switches. Do this several times because subsequent adjustments will throw off the earlier ones. If you still can't...
If you're gonna try welding it, I'd suggest v'ing out the crack and drilling a hole at the end of the crack to help stop it's progression. Make sure you wipe it down really well with brake cleaner so you get all the oil off the surface and out of the crack. I have a Yanmar in a compactor...
Mine was screwed up as well. It took a lot of fiddling to get it set just right but it is doable. Once in a while the target doesn't stick upon shut down, but that's just a matter of making a tiny adjustment to the magnet strength.
I'm not sure what would be leaking oil because the only Yanmar that I have which leaks has a crack in the case. That said, Yanmar parts are very cheap so it's worth the effort.
The governor setting is just labor so there no cost, so long as you already have a good multimeter. I had to buy a...
But he has to lock the throttle to get it to start. Sounds like the the throttle isn't receiving power or it has a fault and wants to shut down. If that's true, then the load test is guaranteed to fail.
If it's smoking, then the engine is either overloaded or it's starved for air. Check the...
The generator will operate just fine without the ground rod. The purpose of the rod is to provide an opportunity for the unit to ground it's self should there be a short. If the unit (or the device it was feeding) had a short and was not grounded you could become part of the ground path (i.e...
You certainly got lucky with that unit. Even with only 40 hours mine was a disaster for the engine, but the electrics were good. The engine parts are readily available and are surprisingly cheap. If I had a choice for a problem, I'd take a electrically perfect unit with a bad engine because...
They're called split lugs. If you take the nut all the way off you'll see the groove the wire goes in. The nut should be captured by the wire bail so don't break the bail or you might lose the nut. You can put any under size wire under the nut and then just tighten it down. The connection...
Maybe my post wasn't clear, I was trying to answer the question regarding the acceptable plastic thickness. Per the manual, it could be as thick as .010". I then expanded the answer as I can't see using a steel feeler because I don't know if one can withdraw it. Maybe if the feeler was brass...
See page 284 of the TM for more instructions, but it says to use a feeler gauge of .010 inch thickness to check for clearance between the stator and rotor. Honestly, I'm pretty sure the clearance will be OK on it's own. I'm not certain you'll be able to recover a steel feeler gauge.
So, whomever tried to work on my engine attempted to remove the oil filter without removing the retaining bolt. Doesn't surprise me because they made a mess of everything else they touched. When they did this they jacked up the oil filter so I decided to replace it. I didn't realize the...
Here is the Yanmar parts manual. This manual is specific to this exact engine model. It even includes the the correct grid heaters and the oil assist plug.
It's nearly impossible to get a picture of the engine serial number because it's under the muffler. Because I have my engine torn apart, I was barely able to get a pic of the plate. To order any parts from a Yanmar dealer, you'll need the model and serial number.
