What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

When my pump failed, I bought a cheap 12V pump off amazon or fleabay. I just remember it was cheap, like under $20 for the pump. 3 years later still works every time I use it. Would probably burn up if I tried to run the whole tank of washer fluid through it at once, but a few seconds here and...

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

Last time I took mine in for an alignment, the shop also had issuers with one tie rod not moving. Made me a little nervous when they broke out the torch and still couldn't move it. I took it home, loosened the clamps on the adjuster and moved them completely out of the way, then alternated...

A stripped down A2 variant starts at 6k lbs. With a hard top, rear hatch, aircon, heavier frame, and everything else yours has over that, I'm actually surprised it's only 8k lbs.

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

I just went through their site. Lots of great products, but also a lot of them are kind of spendy. I didn't see anything that would function the same as what I did above, but it's a great resource for other types of setups.

To add to the above, here is where everything goes without having to figure out the wiring diagrams for yourself: Side note, the H250 handset is noise cancelling or something like that (it's just not very loud when speaking into it, but I've heard it said other places it's "noise cancelling")...

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

So when I go out wheeling with a group I use a GMRS walkie talkie. Problem is, the truck is so loud I can't really hear when other people are talking, or at least not clearly. I didn't see anything obvious in the radio section and web search didn't show a whole lot specific to what I was...

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

24V has half the amps. My 12k lb milemarker electric is rated for 185 amps on 24V at full load. The 12V version is 370 amps. On a 12V system, especially if it's a single battery, you're going to be drawing it down quite a bit on a longer pull, and the more the voltage drops, the higher the...

Ground disconnect if you are killing all power to the vehicle. Hot side disconnect if you are using it as a power switch for the item, same as any other hot electrical circuit you want to turn off. For my winch I put a breaker on the hot side. Some people say yes, others say no when it...

Close to the steering wheel. I have short legs.

It does get a little warm. I was licensed to haul hazmat/ammo in the army so explosives near me don't worry me that much.

I'd love a rear winch, but between the Federal Military parts rear 2" receiver and associated braces, and not wanting to lose any ground clearance (I already lost departure angle due to the hitch) I doubt I will ever install one. I've only ever used my front winch to recover other people, never...

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

It's more about the internal brake heating up than it is the duty cycle, as with no load it isn't really going to be making a lot of heat from the wiring so much as overriding the brake friction. I've seen several winches that were operated in reverse orientation so when pulling in the line they...

nah, takes too long and lets out too much of the magic smoke if done for too long.

How do you reach the clutch release lever if you're stuck in mud up to the frame?

I have the exact same horns (your amazon link told me I purchased them 3 years ago) I ended up bolting mine, one on either side, to the top grill. Mine are also wired in parallel to the stock horn, with a packard Y fitting. It doesn't look as clean as your install, but I don't have to crawl...

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

Some are willing to try, but you will likely be paying them by the hour for them to figure it out. I found if you ratchet strap one side enough to give the runflat a nice curve to it, then use plenty of tire soap, it pretty much slips right in. I also take the short hook strap piece off the...

honestly, they're a pain. You torque each bolt twice, so for 4 wheels you're talking 192 clicks of the torque wrench. So twice as long to bolt together, and twice as long to take apart. Only really needed if you're running your truck heavy (over 14k lbs)

The 40mm can has eyelets for locks, and the bolts holding it the tray are nylocks, and the can blocks the front radio tray bolts. It will be time consuming for someone to break in and steal from it. Mostly I need the registration out of my wallet because it takes up too much space (along with...

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

I was playing with the rivnut tool in preparation for going camping this coming weekend at the NorthWest Overland Rally. The ones in back will all be for recovery gear. The 50 cal cans in the cab will be snacks and hygene, and the 40mm can bolted to the radio tray will be registration and...

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

Looking underneath my truck, there was a wet spot forming on the passenger side frame rail up near the front. Some type of oil, but while it was starting to cover the frame rail, none of it looked to be dripping on the ground. Finally figured out that one of the transmission oil cooling lines...
