Well I'll be damned. I'm assuming that picture was taken at Ft Hood TX. I picked up the truck from DLA in TX about 2 years ago.
Thank you for posting this picture.
The lift was too low so I had to cut the mounting plate from the wrecker bed and raise it 4 inches. That raised the end of the lift from 24" to 32". Much better.
Getting the final welds done now.
That picture isn't where the lift will be, it's just the first test fit. I had to do some massaging with the grinder. Once everything fits as designed it will be much higher.
Got around to a test fit under the wrecker bed today. It's tight down there between the differential and the front of the lift but everything is fitting as planned. Time to fab up the 4 inch square tube mounts that will bolt into the frame rails.
If I'm lucky I will get it mounted next weekend.
I make progress in very small steps. While checking all the measurements to mount the hydraulic wheel lift I found a lot of extra room under the wrecker bed so I fabricated a winch mount for a 12K Warn winch. I'll mount the fairlead to the rear of the wrecker bed.
I purchased a Holmes Prostar wheel lift for $1000. I'll mount it in the future so I can tow the newer stuff. I will be able to use it to stabilize the rear of the truck when winching in the field.
I don't think it was a bare chassis. I think it started life as an M1028A3 Shelter Carrier. Then sometime in the late 80s (the truck is a 1985) a used Holmes 440 was installed. I think it was used based on the condition of the yellow paint underneath the green. I think this happened at Ft Hood, TX.
Here's what it looks like now. I lifted it 4 inches to clear 37" HMMWV tires. I also had to move the rear axle back 4 inches to center tge rear tires. I built my own rear fenders. Its 102" wide.
Hi everyone. I'm a new member. This is my first post. I purchased a M1028 CUCV Wrecker last year. It was an army truck and last used in the late 90's. It seems, from the paperwork I have, that the army pulled off the communications box and installed a used Holmes 440 wrecker bed. They installed...
