Just finished a few days of work on the truck. Took a little leave in conjunction with a TAD trip.
Fabricated a simple tow bar to move the chassis in and out of the garage.
Used the tow truck to pull the engine & transmission out. I need to spray one more coat of chassis paint on the frame...
Hard to believe the last time I posted on this was Nov 2021. Time flys. I PCS’d to Okinawa, Japan, in April of 22. I’m back in Twentynine Palms for work but not enough time to wrench on the truck at all. Just cleaned up the garage a little and looked at it. It is patiently waiting for me to...
Thank you.
I've decided to relocate the turbo in between the frame behind the cab. I will use a NA 6.2 driver's side exhaust manifold and run pipe from each side back to the turbo.
I have a doubler kit on the way. I need to get the transfer case mounted and the angles right for the drive...
I got some work done on the front axle over the weekend. Balsted some parts for painting. Removed the left side upper kingpin with the aide of heat and a cheater bar. Removed the lower with a large socket, extension and a big hammer. Came out in about 30 seconds.
Bang, bang, bang...
Bang...
Got the rear end in place. I'll snug it up once the ubolts get here. Once it's all together I'll have to measure angles and put in wedges accordingly.
It's already 104° here so this is about as far as I'll get today. Hope everyone has a great day!
I don't know what I would do without my M1028 Wrecker. It's easy work picking up the rear axle (or anything else).
I'm really happy with the Chassis Saver. Antique Satin Black is more gloss than I anticipated but it looks great. I can't wait to get the frame back outside and spray this over...
Starter is resting on the lower frame rail. Problem solved, problem staying solved.
Mark frame.
Cut frame.
De-bur, sand and paint frame.
I will weld/bolt in a piece to strengthen this section at a later date.
Major accomplishment today. The crossmember is installed and the motor/tranny is mounted. Tight fit as expected. I will have to get a civy engine oil dipstick and tube.
Have a great weekend.
I started fabricating the crossmember that goes under the front of the engine.
(2) 8 inch pieces of 2x3 angle iron.
I cut 1 1/2 inch off the 2 inch side.
I drilled out bolt holes aligned with existing holes in the frame. 3 on the passenger side. 2 on the drivers. I drilled a 3rd on the...
