The Once And For All On Batteries...

I did the exact same thing. Yes, all the cables come from the left on mine as well. It was actually fairly easy to figure out once I was looking at it.

The Once And For All On Batteries...

OK folks. Two 31s installed and the beast is alive. I will be modifying the box a little and will probably make some new cables. I feel good about it. Funny little side note - I buy my truck batteries from a local small business that sells blems, used, and reconditioned batteries. I always...

The Once And For All On Batteries...

It's a 1997. I thought all the cables came in from the upper left. I'll have to look closer.

And it's been a good one! Some good info. I had no idea about the Alt/Generator charging issue. That aspect of how to set up your vehicle never occurred to me and it's kind of a big deal.

The Once And For All On Batteries...

So, I'm going to go with two batteries. Four just doesn't seem to make any sense; financially or otherwise. How do I identify the 24V vs 12V cable? Maybe it will be obvious when I look at it, but the only cables I recall being obvious are the NATO plug wires.

The Once And For All On Batteries...

Yes. All of this. I have no doubt the batteries suffered. I had to charge them a couple times. I was not aware of the trans draw or alternator issue, but it makes sense. I have purchased a 24v solar charger to install. Why are AGMs a problem?

The Once And For All On Batteries...

Interestingly, doing a little research, I have found that the 34 series batteries, from Optima Reds to the store brands, have more CCAs than 6tls. The 6tls shine (big time!) in reserve capacity.

How about going with two 6TLs?

What size are you running? I can't remember why I went with 34s.

The Once And For All On Batteries...

So, maybe I shouldn't do 4 batteries at all this time? I think I went with four last time because this was my first MTV and didn't know the platform.

The Once And For All On Batteries...

...at least for me. I know the battery discussion has been done many times and it's quite obvious that you can operate without spending on 6t's. But my question here is, is it the best option? In other words, there is a part of me that thinks the vehicle should be set up as it was engineered...
