Ok. I misunderstood where your leak was.
I still do not think the filter would cause it to overflow. The filter is the return side.
I have seen these spit fluid out from overheating, having a leak/sucking air, and from improper fluid level.
They are pretty picky on level. One of my pumps I...
The filter being clogged won't make the pump leak. It will bypass the filter by overcoming the spring.
The return elbow leaking probably means it is cracked and needs rebrazed.
Don't use a prybar against the reservoir section to tension the belt. It deforms it and makes it leak.
I run ATF in...
All Caterpillar equipment disconnects the ground side of the batteries. Marine application seems to be the opposite. I put mine on the ground. Proper installation is the key. A poor connection at the disconnect is no different than a poor connection at the starter.
The starter will draw the most amps to get moving. Once cranking it will hold a steady amp draw under 150.
As posted above the 42mt draws 800 amps max. They rate these starters by torque @ volts @ amps @ rpm. If the starter draws more than the 800a spec, you have another problem and it probably...
I've been using a 1000 amp intermittent switch for 10 years on my trucks without any problems. If your starter draws more than 1000 amps at 24v then you have a problem. The lead post will probably melt!
Caterpillar 7N0718 is the part that I use. Keyed but it's the same key for all Cat equipment.
Replaced the fuel primer lines. They shattered when I touched them. Ticking time bomb.
Also pulled the pt pump screen. Looked like brand new which is surprising seeing how the fuel filter looked. I'm going to replace the fuel hoses at the selector valve again and the orings in it. I also have a...
I wish I would have anti seized the screw in the access plate under the drivers feet 4 years ago when I had it open last!
Put a rivnut in and a SS bolt with antiseize. Sprayed some rusty metal primer in there and went to the beer store. No noise from the new PTO and the hub I just resealled...
Just finished replacing a front axle seal and boot.
How many of you have dropped the balls? It's been so long since I did one I forgot how much fun it was!
Almost ready for winter.
I wasn't sure of the factory 5 ton winch PTO could be taken apart and reversed. I searched and only found deuce ptos being reversed. The rear output add on is as much $$ as a new PTO. There is a lot more room toward the rear though.
Finally put the PTO on the trans. Sure do wish it faced rear. Not a lot of room to mount the hydraulic pump. Maybe I'll get the rear winch done this year!
Thanks. It looks better in pictures than in person! The whole truck could use a coat of paint.
That was the town of East Berlin Pa. I live a few miles south of there in Hanover. If you're ever in the area, stop by the VFW, they have an F14 and a M60! Also let me know we'll grab grab a beer or...
