Pulled the muffler today today to see if made any difference in the drive-ability of my turbo charged M925. Turbo seems to spool faster and build more boost at the same RPMs. Overall its louder but not nearly as bad as my deuce. Id like to get a pipe to get the exhaust tip back up to original...
Replaced front carrier bearing. The bearing itself was fine, but the rubber portion started coming apart making a weird noise between 55 and 65. Was alot easier to replace than expected.
Finally got around to installing my tach cable. First time since I installed the transmission I can finally see what RPM it shifts at and noticed it shifts at 200-400RPM higher then my old trans. Much better on hills now too.
New trans is in. Took it for a drive. I got to get use to how it shifts. New trans shifts a much higher RPM and much smoother. I got a few things to address before I can road trip it. I can't tell right now if it has a leak or if some of the fluid I spilled is just dripping. Because my truck is...
Got my "new" old transmission removed today. Got the new new one put in and most of thingies bolted too it. Reman transmission was so much smoother to do then the take out I wish I hadn't tried to cheap out in the first place. Hope to have the truck back on the road before Saturday. I've had the...
Got my M925 trans completely prepped for removal today. Only 4 bolts to go. My new transmission has been stuck in limbo on the freight trailer due to weather. Was hoping to drop and install today but that looks like a Monday or Tuesday job at this point. Only want to rent the jack once.
To get...
Started pulling all of my accessories off my transmission again. Bought a rebuilt one from a SS member and now just got to wait for it to show up. Hopefully have the thing on the road before Christmas and not have to do another transmission job for a long time. Three transmissions in 2 months is...
Pulled the valve body off my new take out trans that was stuck in reverse. Full of rusty water. Going to pull the valve body out of my other trans tomorrow and install it and see if the rest of that trans is in good shape. If not looks like I'm pulling the transmission again. Least I'm starting...
After about 8hrs of drilling, tapping, cutting and hoping. Finally got the last broken bolt out of my crank shaft. Ended up using a HF air saw(actually took 4 of them cause they are **** and kept breaking) to cut it into pieces and pry it out. Overall I spent about 200 bucks on taps, easy outs...
Got one of my broken crank/flex plate bolts out today. The other one is fighting something fierce. Broke two taps, and an easy out. Got it to budge, but ran out tools to remove it tonight. Going to buy a bigger drill bit and a bigger easy out tomorrow. Other wise ran a tap and cleaned up the...
Your right on the part number. But the bolts I pulled out were 5/8" x 1.25". It is a fine thread, 5/8 x 18TPI bolt. Cummins wants 42 bucks a bolt. Im going to tap the threads another 1/4in to 1/2in into the crank to put a longer bolt.
Got the trans removed from the truck today. Found 3 of the 6 flex plate to crank bolts had snapped. Got drill them and easy out them tomorrow. Two where loose and mangled the threads but the holes are still round. One was still tight and in good shape. Anyone know what the size of the bolts/TPI...
Went to drive the truck to my work spot today and it made it half way there before the trans popped out of gear and wouldn't go back in. One thing I notice though. When the trans wont go into gear, the clunking noise and vibration pretty much disappear. Round to tomorrow, I got 6 blocks to drag...
Well I am going to take the electric garage door opener and the entire door assembly for another 100, so I am coming out way further ahead. It's a big enough door to fit the 925 on 1600s.
Sourced a building to go swap the trans in my M925. Its slated for demolition in a few weeks. I have a feeling it is a tad bit to short length wise to fit, so I got permission to cut a hole in the back wall for the bumper to fit through if needed. Otherwise is it is plenty tall and wide. Goal is...
I'm feeling for you. Was going to do some work on it this weekend, but I have to fly to Cali this afternoon so the truck got put back on the waiting list. Next weekend is the project weekend hopefully. Sucks when life gets in the way of big green toys.
I will do that for sure if I have to replace it. Though I think brad has take outs for 550ea. If I need one, that's who I am buying it from.
Edit- Info on dump kit?!
I believe it is what ever the mil ran in it. Looks like motor oil, not ATF. I haven't really done a whole lot to the truck so far. I had only had it a week when when this issue showed up. It ran fine for the 400 miles I put on it though until the noise started.
If I have to replace the trans. I was planning on cutting the floor out anyhow and just welding a piece of sheet metal back in when I was done. Glad I wasn't to far from the truth.
