. It might be worth a trip to a line shop and have a foot or so cut off and replace the hose ends. There are "skive" hose ends that allow you to do that at home (in your shop) too if you spend the time to find them. Much better than scrapping all 20/30 feet...

. Your idea of cutting the pin into three pieces is the best plan. Heat. It's not really going to work with propane. You don't get enough heat fast enough to swell the eye without swelling the pin at the same time. Having an acetylene torch with a rosebud tip will cause the "eye" to swell...

. Couple of fallons of gas in the diesel tank is good to help clean the injectors every now and again. Couple of older than me guys always claimed it needed to be done regular. Me personally -I don't think I would want to have Gas AND Ether in a diesel startup though...
