Paint on a barn done by hand lasts longer than a sprayed barn. Thicker coat and like you said - when you are up close and personal - you can fill in any imperfections "more better" with a brush.

@cucvrus , Hope you can get the "saw bones" to sign off on getting you fixed up. You are about the same age as your trucks, so maybe the rebuild won't be awful. I've had things go bad as I have gotten older too - and it is somewhat amazing the things they can do for us.

Amazing how the weather takes all things with time... That is a nice looking set of steps. Funny. A lot of things that I do now are fixing things from 20 or 30 years ago. The only good part of that is that the next time it gets fixed, chances are it won't be me doing it.

I didn't know that there was a lunette ring lock... I use a short heavy piece of chain wrapped several times around the ring and secured with a heavy padlock. It isn't a perfect solution against a cut-off wheel and a battery powered grinder. It does keep the honest people honest though...

Seems like the guys who used it would have taken a little better care of the trailer jack. On the other hand, with three or four guys on it, I guess they would have hustled it up onto the pintle. AND dropped in a pile of mud when they disconnected it...
