What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

Since installing fixed position windows in both rear doors, no window tracks exist for inside door handle assembly attachment. Rectified that by making attachment brackets from 2” angle aluminum, sourced at Home Depot. Only couple hours start to finish with hand tools and 10/24 fasteners...

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

Fabricated fixed position windows and frames for my rear doors this weekend. Used 1/2” polycarbonate and 1 1/2” aluminum angle, 3/16” holes, 1/8” flat rubber for a seal on both sides of poly. Front doors have operable windows also made from 1/2” polycarbonate. Doors and door jambs are still a...

Conversion of 1152A1 to 4 door still in progress. Rear doors fitted with continuous hinges today. Doors were fabricated by Joe at TwistedMetalworks. Also installed Jeremy Johnson running board/rail sliders. Jeremy is certainly a master of metal fabrication.

Have not yet installed window hardware. Only pic I have of inside. Flat aluminum so far. When ordering doors I opted for full coverage exterior (X-delete). The “X” design only serves to somewhat stiffen thin aluminum or fiberglass doors. Stock hinges are temporary. I have 20” continuous hinges...

Fitting TwistedMetalWork.com custom made aluminum doors to my 1152A1. These 1/2” thick doors close with a solid clunk like the door of a quality gun safe! Decided to move side mirrors to the doors. So much better. Original placement of mirrors may serve a military purpose, but drove me nuts!

Received aluminum hinges for mounting aluminum doors to my Humvee. 6”wide x 20”long, 3/8” pin. Will trim excess material off one side of each as necessary. Will be through bolted. Vendor is great to work with. Will fabricate any hinge you can think of. These are from available stock material...

Posting these pics for those that may be curious how Line-X is applied. Cost in my area is about $10.25 per square foot of coverage, 1/8” thick. Today had a M1114 steel hardtop sprayed. Complete procedure took 3 men x two hours. This hardtop is modified to fit my M1152A1 I’m reconfiguring to...

Continuing conversion of my M1152A1 (2 seats) to M1165A1ish (4 seats). Covered rear tunnel area with 3/4” rubber mat, over 3/4” plywood, over 1/2” solid foam insulation, over Dynamat. Trimmed with 2” aluminum angle.

The flexible rubber shrouds left and right of the cooling stack (in conjunction with a third rubber shroud attached to the hood) are (I believe) there to help fresh air be channeled directly through the hood grill with protective screen. The shrouds also minimize surrounding airborne debris in...

Installing Dynamat to mitigate road noise. Also installing 1/2” solid foam insulation and 1/4” rubber matting. Sourced 4’x8’ insulation from Lowe’s, rubber matting in a roll from Tractor Supply. Have used the 1/4” rubber for many applications throughout the Humvee build. Ordered 72 sf of Dynamat...

Stop the annoying gouging of the air intake side cover. Simply remove the right side hood latch, grind 1/8” metal from inside edge (see area marked in red). Repaint, re-install. Hood opens easier and no longer contacts the air intake cover. Yes, I still need to repaint intake cover.

WOW! Your’s must be the strongest rails out there! They look great. 👍👍 I had my C-pillar/bulkhead and D-pillars sprayed with Line-X to encapsulate the steel to mitigate rusting. That barrier also helps to prevent rust staining where those parts attach to the aluminum fenders.

Installed a pintle extension. May never tow anything with my Humvee, but this adds a substantial layer of protection in the event of being hit from the rear.

Thank you for the advice, Coug. Yes actually, I live right on the coast. I am familiar with Inter granular corrosion, and it will be prevented/mitigated by adequate means.

I previously posted this photo of my doors a few months ago. Doors are 1/2” thick aluminum (2 slabs of 1/4” bonded together). 400% thicker than the 1/8” thick aluminum doors offered by most other aftermarket fabricators. These doors are fabricated by “TwistedMetalwork.com”. My plan is to use...
