M1010 fire rig to camper conversion

Well at least now you know. I had to pull my ps pulley forward a full 1/8” to get it aligned with the water pump and crank pulleys.

M1010 fire rig to camper conversion

There’s not much way to “eyeball” it. Trust me, 1/16” of an inch will make a difference. The alternator could possibly be close to aligned, but I would bet the ps pulley is off. Make sure all 4 ps bolts are in place and tight when you check for alignment. And remember that bottom ps bolt has...

The belt “strum” is a true indication of non-alignment. If you will align those pulleys all the problems will go away. Ask me how I know. Hope this helps.

Regarding your belts, I will suggest that you align the pulleys instead of diving into a custom idler fabrication. I’ve been changing belts on these things since the mid 1960’s and a few years ago I decided to figure out what was causing the belts to stretch and squeak. I discovered that the...

Have you considered a Derale cooling pan? https://derale.com/product-footer/transmission-pans/cooling-pans/14204-detail Derale also offers some great looking heat sinks which mounts on the frame rails. I've installed the cooling pan on my 700R4 however the engine/transmission/transfer case is...

What floor insulation did you use? I plan on adding it to my floor when I install my P400 / 700R4 / NP241. Looks great, by the way. I used the same floor liner and that heat gun will be your friend. I wish I had some of those seat covers.

Hey Cruz - did you speak with Chris Gardner at Bowtie regarding the manual lock-up switch? I believe those long inclines pulling your heavy load in 3rd gear (unlocked) is probably your overheating issue. Just my 2 cents.

That is going to be nice. Good design. I am doing something similar but different - if that makes sense. I have designed and fabricated a dash-mounted gauge cluster pod which will mount under the dash pad between the radio delete plate and dash door. This will completely cover the ashtray...

Any update on this on the overheating 700R4?

M1010 fire rig to camper conversion

Darn I hate it that you are having overheating issues. Probably the next phone call should be to Chris at Bowtie to see what he thinks can be done to improve the issue. Also reach out to Glockfan in Utah. Joe Grant is a great guy with a great CUCV. If I remember correctly he just recently...

It sounds like your TV cable is not adjusted correctly. There are many references online about how to correctly adjust it and I recommend that you read as many as you can. Basically you need to temporarily remove the spring on the IP and wedge the throttle in the WOT position with a piece of...

Yeah I had to modify my 700R4 cover anyway to clear the P400 girdle and oil pan.

I’d like see how you plumbed the temporary filter upstream from the 700R4. If I remember correctly, the return line from the radiator is the top fitting. thanks.

Looks to me that you need to drop that pan and clean/reseal it. Regarding the cam seal, I have never replaced one but I believe it comes out/goes in just like a freeze plug.

Must be a heck of a fence. Why would you consider a Gear Vendors unit over a built 700R4? In my 50-year history of building and modifying 4WD trucks, when comparing the two, I can see many more cons to the Gear Vendors, and many more pros to the 700R4. Just my 2 cents. Respectfully,
