I agree with your cost and distance logic here. Keep in mind, fuel and fuel taxes are going to quadruple now (and you poor bastards out there in CA already paid too much for a $1.25 worth of diesel fuel). The issue is "California is the Model for the Nation" according to the incoming...
The CTIS has pre-determined "safe speeds" to operate the truck with less-than-normal air pressure. There is a dash indicator that comes on if that speed is exceeded. The CTIS is programmed to push the tire pressure back up automatically if the dash indicator is ignored.
I think that the 55 mph rating is only on the Michelin "may pops" and ZXLs. Pretty sure that the Goodyears are rated well beyond 55mph for highway. Of course you always want to adjust your speed with any load scenario.
Trial by fire, good for you. Being sure that I could get the spare off in the dark by myself was the first thing I did when I got my first truck. And a couple hours isn't bad for a swap. Pulling a tire off the truck and replacing it is one of those things best not rushed, IMO.
Looking forward...
I'd be very interested to know if any of them are civilian vehicles.
Because then it's a $40 switch again and I *would* be happy to know that if it were to ever fail it could be ordered.
So the "surplus" stock just rolled off the manufacturer's assembly line? And has been stored in climate controlled storage since?
Hmmmm
But you're correct, it certainly isn't worth arguing...
Well, I've also owned two trucks now w/o breaking my turn signal. ;p
But yes, I absolutely could wire a junkyard switch to the dimmer, wiper controls, and turn signals (all there is to it).
I could also take it a step further and hook up cruise control onto a proper stalk OR onto the wheel...
If mine ever fails, I'm yanking the entire steering column and retrofitting a nice one from a junkyard with "real" tilt and lots of controls on the wheel !
Not *that* I would pay $200 for.
LOL
Meh
Unless you are playing army with a 100% "must be OEM-only" truck, I say go to a junkyard or get one off Amazon.
Only the government would pay $200 for a silly $40 switch.
There is nothing magical about the one on our trucks. It's a stick with switches all mounted on a switch. It is...
I got my M1079 from auction. Flew out and drove it home 1000 miles. Took as many tools as I could shove into the 50 lbs limit on a single bag. Temp tag and insured, first stop was NAPA and I ran thru my checklist. Had already had a spare belt and some hoses ordered and on will call at the...
Another nice feature of this method is that if you ever sell the truck, you can simply sell the LLC to the new owner. It can all transfer that way and the only change is getting it insured by the buyer. Technically, it requires no re-registration (since the LLC owed/owns the truck all along)...
1) Find a state that allows RV title conversions
2) Start a LLC in that state (cost is typically under $100 total but some states do require a resident sponsor)
3) Register as an RV in the LLC's name (meet the required changes to be an RV, weigh, inspect)
4) Lease the vehicle to yourself for...
