The Once And For All On Batteries...

I'm no electronics wiz by any means. I've let a LOT of smoke out of things. How is this really different than OEM (you just delete one battery on the 24v side in your img). The 12v gremlins (always lurking) would stull suck on that second 12v house battery the way you have it drawn?

The Once And For All On Batteries...

You'd be correct. The 100amp alt is no match for four 6TLs,Hawkers, etc. Interestingly, the Niehoff dual voltage do not put out the same amps to both 12v and 24v rails. 100amp = 24v 100amp/12v 60 amp 260 amp = 24v 260amp/ 12v 140amp So when the 12v gremlins suck on a 100amp truck...

The Once And For All On Batteries...

Interesting. I've often wondered if you could do this (with two or more batteries making up the 12v side and one dedicated to become the 24v side). My idea was to prolong the capability to get sucked on by the 12v vampire that lives deep inside the truck. But I've also considered...

Well last time I picked up a pair was pre-China virus, so... But they look to be still around that price. https://www.napaonline.com/en/p/BAT7256

I honestly don't recall what I paid last time. I'd say ~$500 for the pair (after taxes with no cores to exchange) if memory serves.

Lithium are best suited for house batteries (ie: RV where they are tucked away indoors). The benefits there are valid if you can afford to go with them. But I'd never considered lithium for "truck" batteries.

12v vampiric drain? Add a balancer and all will charge evenly.

The Once And For All On Batteries...

I don't think so... My 260a on my truck makes 260a on the 28v side and 140a on the 14v side. Now whether it alternates that thru the magic smoke contained within or if it does it at all the same time, I've no idea (I suspect the former). If memory serves, the 100a OEM 28/14 puts out 100a/40a...

The Once And For All On Batteries...

What year truck? If an AO (facing truck) there are two cables coming in inboard/forward (top/left). These are your 24v (on the AO's the two are paired together, on the A1R it is a single cable (I've never owned an A1). Then one single inboard/middle (center/top). This is 12v And one that...

The Once And For All On Batteries...

As Ronmar said, if all our trucks had 260a alts more things become viable.

The Once And For All On Batteries...

Dual 6TLs on all my trucks. Mostly because I like the OEM tie down system and didn't want to hack up the top in case I reverted back to four (never know when we *all* may be at war or have to bug out to nasty cold places, etc). ;) But I've seen people retrofit all sorts of sizes. There are a...

Go dual unless you are in N. Maine, Alaska, Montana, etc. In GA you don't need four. Set up for dual. You can always swap back. All three of my trucks were converted to two (you can even use the existing cables). *not my image, but it's what I used.
