    M38A1 YS 950S Carb Doesn't Fit

It's alive. Seems to run just fine going through the gears, although I need to work on the idle a little. Now that I have a real breather system hooked up, I'm not loosing oil out the rear main seal anymore. Downside, my speedo stopped working, so I'll get into that tomorrow. Last but not least...

    M38A1 YS 950S Carb Doesn't Fit

Almost ready to go. Just need to shorten the flex hose between the air cleaner & fording valve. I'm also going to the hotter 2245 spark plugs, from the 2243 plugs. I think down the road I'm going to convert to the CJ5 cap, rotor, wires and spark plugs. These resistor spark plugs are becoming...

    M38A1 YS 950S Carb Doesn't Fit

I also need a hood. Mine has some bondo in the front, and then another previous owner welded in the plug on the right hand side, that covers the hole for the snorkel for the fording kit. Your hood still looks good.

    M38A1 YS 950S Carb Doesn't Fit

My Dec. 1953 M38A1, just before going in the garage last month for surgery. My original tool box door was rusted around the edges and the latch was missing, so the door rattled constantly when driving. I picked up a couple good doors at one of our MVCC meets, and problem solved. As you can see...

What's the condition of your tool box door under the passenger seat?

    M38A1 YS 950S Carb Doesn't Fit

DeetFreek, another thing I don't have is a bridge plate, I'll have to scrounge one up down the road. By the way, where do they mount on an M38A1? Tomorrow I have a couple of errands to run, and then I need to form my gas line from the fuel pump to the carburetor, and then crank her over and see...

    M38A1 YS 950S Carb Doesn't Fit

The harness doesn't look to bad to install, and I have some new correct gauges to go in the dash. Today I got my new vacuum lines installed from the dipstick tube to the valve cover, and fording valve.

Mine is in similar condition. The previous owner rewired the starting circuit so it starts, but that was it. 😥

    M38A1 YS 950S Carb Doesn't Fit

Good to know. I'll try to restore this as a USMC Jeep. I just skimmed over fording kit parts on the internet. It looks like there are quite a few parts for fording kits available. I noticed there was only one individual selling data plates for the dash, so I picked one up. All I know about my...

    M38A1 YS 950S Carb Doesn't Fit

NDT, would the fording kit designate what branch of service the Jeep was in ? Well, I have the fording valve, now I need to scrounge the rest of the kit. Thanks NDT!

NDT, this is the only thing on the dash that matches your description.

    M38A1 YS 950S Carb Doesn't Fit

Now my YS950S Carburetor fits, along with the new dipstick, and dipstick tube!!! I'm in the garage to keep out of the roasting sun. So now I'm in the shade of the garage sweating bullets. Now it's off to dollar general, or family dollar to get a box fan to cool things off. I don't know, but I...

    M38A1 YS 950S Carb Doesn't Fit

Looking good. My M38A1 didn't have an oil filter when I purchased it, so I took care of that right away, and mine needs a fan shroud as well.

    M38A1 YS 950S Carb Doesn't Fit

DeetFreek, I found this one on Ebay several days ago. These dipstick tubes come with 0,1,or 2 vent tubes. I purchased one with 2 vent tubes as that is what most of the military M38A1 Jeeps seem to have. One vent tube has a hose to the fording device, and the other hose goes to the breather on...

    M38A1 YS 950S Carb Doesn't Fit

Here are the differences between the Jeep M38A1 valve cover on the left, and the Commercial Jeep (pick up, station wagon) valve cover on the right. As you can see, there is a greater relief on the right side center section of the M38A1 valve cover to clear the float bowl of the YS950S...

    M38A1 YS 950S Carb Doesn't Fit

Found out that even with the spacer the YS carb doesn't fit. It turns out the model of valve cover is wrong. Somewhere along the way, a previous owner swapped out the M38A1 engine, and replaced it with a commercial F134 F Head engine from a Willy's pickup, or station wagon. The commercial engine...

    M38A1 YS 950S Carb Doesn't Fit

NDT, no I do not, that is probably what's causing my problem. I'm not a jeep guy, but I'm quickly becoming familiar on all the ins and outs. I'll get on the phone and order one tomorrow. I understand Peter De Bella is a good source for jeep parts. Thank You!!

    M38A1 YS 950S Carb Doesn't Fit

I purchased a 1953 M38A1 awhile back. It had a Carter YF carburetor when I purchased it, the YF is standard on commercial jeep F head engines. My YF leaked a little, and ran a little rough. So I found a Carter YS 950 at one of the California meets, and had it rebuilt by a competent carb shop. So...
