if it is not going to cost you anything to evaluate the electronics of the unit..... go for it..... at mean time put air in the system as described by Ronmar (will get you link in a second) and check for actual faults in the air system ....... for this too can cause all kind of blinking/solid...

Since no being scrapped trucks are in my area.... fellow helping me (well he's paid but he lets me help/get in his way) do axle swap and mount the Ambo box.... is also repairing the rusted out driver side floor boards. He made a template so he can make them for others who may need them as well...
congrats. As others have said in here.... at times (minus things scavenged) what was left undone or hastily slapped back together is a hint of the point where they reached the end of their rope/confusion on what the problem was, or where they decided the fix was not worth their time with that...
Considering a NOS tranny is up to 3x the cost of what you bought that truck for.. you don't want to go that route. A good used one can run you from 1.5 to 2x the price you bought the truck for.
