Obtained two Oshkosh FMTV A1 contract submission vehicles post demil. I was able to document them some before their cannibalization but now that they're in good (safe) hands maybe one will run again.. one day.
Finished up this project that will make someone's dream come true. This winch model M1078 had a bad engine so I gave it another Cat but from an MTV. With 290 horses under the hood (cab?) and 16.00's it will move. When the turbo spools it puts your butt in the seat. It was painted, doors rebuilt...
You can get a year or so out of painting them but they will crack and flake. There's no way around it as it's a material flexing thing. Shipping isn't bad but you have to fold it right. I believe I have a LMTV tan cover (used) but I'll need to unfold it to check the overall condition.
I saved a M1089 from a future of neglect yesterday. One of my contacts called me to appraise a non-running military vehicle and expected a M35A2 or something older. A deal was struck and she was running in about 20 minutes (it's all about knowing which screw to turn). CTIS aired up the flats and...
Finished this one today from top to bottom. BAE went through it in 2007 and I in 2022. With a little body work and paint it could pass for a rebuilt truck.
I did the thing! I had a M1078 w/w and the engine was dead. No bang-boom even with ample starting fluid so I dropped in a MTV 290hp engine and put it on 16.00s. It really moves. The boost will put you in your seat. :driver:
Slowly working on the next project: M1086. She's alive and runs pretty good. The crane works with the bypass held, I've not looked into that in detail yet.
That's them. It was a cluster-f because the OEM didn't issue titles or certificate of manufacturer yet agreed to furnish them to the auction company. 5 months later I got it situated but it shouldn't have been a thing. Anyway, no more in the pipeline surplus wise to the public. Uncle Sam didn't...
Well this friend (and I do mean friend) sweet talked me out of my new trailer. I got to keep the connex at least. I wish him well as it will be his home for the next 5 years. It will be SUCH a badass rig when he's done.
A customer now friend came in this week to build his dream truck. We started out with an M1078A1 w/w and changed it to a M1079A1 w/w. What a nice rare bird she is now. I upped the HP, set cruise control, and other things under the hood to wake her up too.
I treated myself for once and installed new MRAP seats in my M1078A1R. These are the ones in the classifieds and fit well. I removed the spacer C channel which dropped the height about 2.5". Tapped 4 holes and mounted the driver seat. The passenger was a little more of a challenge as I had to...
