I agree. I'm pretty sure the dust boots were installed before the large nuts and ferruls were put on.

Think about the age of 5he truck, that could have happened years ago and the "straw that broke the camels back" probably just happened recently.

Barely snug is fine, just make sure the safety wire is on.

There little to no pressure on it. I would think a roll of gasket material and making your own should be fine.

Either pull the IP from the block for later(there is more useful parts than just the hyd head) or you can pull the gear off the front if you just want the hyd head.

No pics, but looking at the one I have sitting here, the round part(dish?) goes to the bottom of the plunger, then the three finger retaining clip goes on. The round flat part faces down. Does that help?

With what you have in that pic, I think you would be time and money ahead getting a replacement hydraulic head. You will want to ask about that button as I don't think they come with the head. Yours looks pretty chewed up, I doubt its good anymore. If you have more questions, feel free to PM...

Yup, wrong there. Chris started the site and there have been plenty before Patracy. While he is currently at the reigns, I doubt he should get all the credit. As Drew once said, he just pushes buttons and gets bananas.

Welcome to the site. You need to update your location from the U.S. to a state. Yes you are on the right track, I bet the button retainer on the bottom of the hydraulic head has let go. I have some new ones if you decide you need/want one.

The red/scored tooth on the HH is ONLY used for removing the HH. The marks on the dampener and advanced unit(disk under the 4 bolt hole window) are for timing the pump to the motor. Yes, an inspection mirror helps find the red/scored tooth. When you put the HH back in, you want the arrow cast...

Sorry I missed this till now, the 2 O-rings the HH sits on is A: 2.484x.139 B: 2.109x.139 Not sure what the one on the fuel shutoff rod is.

If you had the HH out, you should replace the O-rings(2) it sits on. Also the O-ring that seals the "shut off" shaft.
