ORignal GTB engines were only G series Fords with the front mounted distributor. It seems you can make almost any straight six fit as I've seen Chevy, Dodge and other Ford engines installed. I just got done with the machine shop work on my original flathead and I can see why a lot of them...
My battery box is all metal, but not totally sure if it is original. I would think you could use any kind of wood for the side boards if you are painting them. I used ash on my wc-63, but oak on my M-37.
