Using my SEE for real work

My See seems to be acting like a crane of late. I did a wood boiler out of basement about 2 weeks ago (no pictures) and on a solar trailer I was reconfiguring yesterday. The original trailer had two sets of panels that could rotate independently. That probably works in the middle of a field...

Great pics. Yes having the capability to move big heavy stuff can get a lot of toys for cheap. As my friends aunt used to say when my friends uncle brought something big home "It will look good at the auction" (with reference to the one she was going to have when he passed ;). Sad to say when...

Northern Hydraulics and I expect Tractor Supply are selling interlocking ground mats for this type of work. Not cheap but its surprising how well they spread out the load. I have seen large concrete trucks using them and it just flattens out the grass. On a somewhat related note my SEE and the...

Using my SEE for real work

Someone suggested just cutting off the exposed section of the hose on the reel and cutting it there. Sunlight is the big destroyer of hoses so the rest of the hose that is not in the sun should have longer l life.

If the entire wall was coming out, slow dynamite would have been the ticket. Not so good with lots of rebar but pretty impressive. Of course you would not have ended up with all those nice slabs.

Latching used to be major project for me. With practice its far less so. I wish I could give folks a big tip but it just seems to require practice. I think there is some correlation with the amount that the backhoe is used prior to doing a latch attempt but even when I just do a quick...

Looks like a project. Too bad you didnt have a hydraulic concrete saw to plug into the hydraulics. There is a chainsaw version and a wheel version.

IMHO. Mercedes pricing for OEM parts is always expensive but the trade off is they keep a lot of them in stock for decades. Unlike the SEE specific non Mercedes parts that may be cheap while the surplus inventory exist, but once that gone I expect we will be getting creative or like one of our...

Using my SEE for real work

There do seem to be lot of surplus mercedes fuel filters and housings for sale on Ebay (along with the oil filters and housings). I expect when they dry up the price from Mercedes will be lot more dollars.

I havent changed the fluids as the prior owner did. I went through the fan game a couple of years ago. Mine was one of the many with the dry rotted grommets on the top of the fan housings (covered by a technical bulletin) , water got in and rotted the guts out. I ended up replacing them with...

Using my SEE for real work

I did some serious digging on Sunday followed by an interesting drive home. Dirt in much of northern NH is a misnomer, its mostly rocks with dirt filling in between them on top of glacially deposited hard pan clay which is one step away from concrete. My SEE has the optional Hein Werner rock...

At least the controls for deploying the backhoe are on the uphill side ;)

Looks to me like you needed to chain up. I have 4 of the Pewag army surplus chains I need to cut down to fit my tire size. Someone on Ebay stuffs one chain in a priority mail one rate box and saves a bundle on shipping compared to UPS. I get a note from the post office when they arrive as the...

Using my SEE for real work

The only cylinder leak I have lines up roughly with the seat with the backhoe stowed. Make for a greasy seat so I can emphasize. I use the pig style oil absorbent blankets to wipe it off and then sit on one.

Using my SEE for real work

I am surprised it started as the fuel was probably summer grade. At -10 I would expect it was jello. It could be a reason why you were running out of power, I expect the suction side of the fuel system was having a tough time getting enough fuel up to the Injection pump. Might be worth adding a...

I never noticed your "high tech" solution to the hood latches. Quite creative. Nice 3rd shot of your "drag slicks" looks like you have some interesting clay.

Using my SEE for real work

I think I will keep my ripper bucket as its works better in frozen ground (there is a misc technical manual in the tech manuals section about digging frozen ground with a SEE). It also is great for digging the rock filled soils and hard pan that crops up locally. I ripped through some loose...

Using my SEE for real work

Thanks for answering a question I didn't ask but should have. There is someone selling a 12" bucket for SEE about a 3 hour drive away. I only have the Hein Werner bucket with the ripper claws which makes for a very messy hole since it has 4 or 5 ledge hooks hanging off the back. I see...

Using my SEE for real work

The standing joke in NH is that rocks are a renewable resource. Clear out a field one year and the next spring it will be full or rocks as the frost lifts the rocks up. Frost can go down 4' feet. Eventually in 30 or 40 years or so it gets better. The "soils" on my wood lot are effectively rocks...
