    M135 M211 2 speed transfer case mod

The Canadian guards were real nice. Asked me where I was going, did I have any weapons and did I plan on leaving anything in Canada. I did joke and say I had to go to the bathroom so I would be leaving something. The guard just smiled and passed us through. Coming back the US guards were a real...

Hey "Duuane" we got home safe and sound today. The engine and transmission didn't move an inch ! For all you guys out there following Duuane's build, I just want to say he is a real "stand up" guy ! Met him in person today for the first time and he is a real gentlemen and mechanic ! I had bought...

    M135 M211 2 speed transfer case mod

Yeah, where all going to get hit by this new Artic front coming down. That combined with that stupid swirling storm off the coast will make for some interesting weather this up-coming week ! My bet is on 12" of snow here.

I know what you mean about the Wasps ! We get the ground Wasps here, and I drove over a nest two weeks ago. They where not happy with me and one got my right ear pretty good ! I drove over their nest several times after that ! Sucked them up into the mower blades !!!! Made me feel so much better !

    M135 M211 2 speed transfer case mod

I love the "older" DT466 engines. Made great power and gave good fuel economy. By the way. Will I be making a trip up there anytime soon to retrieve a transmission ? Just wondering.

    M135 M211 2 speed transfer case mod

I always thought Detroit Diesel should have tried harder to make their 2 stroke engines pass emissions . The 4 stroke units are OK, but you cannot get them to rev like the old 2 strokes could. Man you could make a truck "Fly" with that engine ! Though truth be told I've always been a "Cummins"...

    M135 M211 2 speed transfer case mod

Yes CAT has always been expensive to buy and rebuild. It was like the "Cadillac" of engines, while the Detroit Diesel was the "Chevy" of the diesel world. Now I'm afraid CAT has lost all their street cred due to their stupid corporate attitude towards profit at all costs. Their C-9 engine...

    M135 M211 2 speed transfer case mod

I always felt the CAT 3208 and 3408 where the best series engines they ever produced. To bad they couldn't meet the emission standards.

    M135 M211 2 speed transfer case mod

Looking real Good ! It would be nice if you could take pictures of all the new and modified parts you have. Have them layed out next to the old parts if possible. Also how much has this cost you to date ? Thanks for sharing this great project !

    M135 M211 2 speed transfer case mod

You know I could really use a good detailed breakdown of what you did. With lots of pictures ! If I ever get the chance to rebuild a M135, I would want to modify the transfer-case like you did.

    M135 M211 2 speed transfer case mod

Exactly. That key holds that gear to the shaft. I know the gears are spinning freely on the shaft in general and when the shifter moves it "dogs" them into each other. I still think we are looking at this from different angles. OK, try and imagine that gear on the output end without the "key" ...

    M135 M211 2 speed transfer case mod

If that key is only "supporting" that gear then remove it and put shims in it's place. The fact is that key is there to make a mechanical connection to that shaft. That is the only reason woodruff keys are used. To make a mechanical connection. As far as your suggestions "Ashley P" about the...

    M135 M211 2 speed transfer case mod

You would think so, but the reality is they really didn't understand gears like we do now. That is 1950's knowledge they where using. In the last eighty years we have learned a thing or two. We now know the damage caused by any failure of the drivetrain including keys giving way causes way to...

    M135 M211 2 speed transfer case mod

Keys are much cheaper to make then splines. Also keys are never used as "fuses" . When they go they cause extreme damage to the shafts and gears. Get the hardened "alloy" woodruff keys. I need to edit this post. "Keys" used to be used as "fuses" when they where made from really mild steel (can...

Try here https://www.huyett.com/ . I've gotten all the woodruff keys for the Spicer 3052/3053 transmission here. Hardened "Alloy" steel too.
