Bad Bill for Title Military Surplus Off Road Moves to Virginia Senate

My Indiana rep said it is the manufactures association that is driving Indiana's version of law. They don't want old vehicles on the road so their supporters sell more new ones...thus we have a strong bias against us. But hey, I got almost kicked off SS for wanting a pro-active approach and...

Bad Bill for Title Military Surplus Off Road Moves to Virginia Senate

That would really suck for my 1997 M35A3. But would it pass an inspection to the new vehicle standards? Cat 3116....maybe??

Bad Bill for Title Military Surplus Off Road Moves to Virginia Senate

Yes, someone could buy it, but with the new restrictions on use. At least after 2019. If they get it in before then and don't let it lapse, then it should be "grandfathered".....wow....talk about creating something hard to keep track of for the DMV.

Bad Bill for Title Military Surplus Off Road Moves to Virginia Senate

But is there other legislation? I understand what you are saying with all the steps to get legislation passed, but if what I saw in the video is all that was passed, it is very narrow indeed and looked reasonable. But let me be clear, my interest is not HMMWV but the other recently sold...

Bad Bill for Title Military Surplus Off Road Moves to Virginia Senate

So is there other legislation coming up? Obvious legislative intent is to give current owners some leeway that extends indefinitely as long as the vehicle is registered/licensed.

Bad Bill for Title Military Surplus Off Road Moves to Virginia Senate

No, they were NOT designed SOLELY for off road use. They are on the road all the time and were designed to solve a problem of former Jeeps....rollover. That a vehicle can be taken off road and used does not make it "off road only"...it makes it multi-purpose.

Is there more to it than what passed in your video?

Bad Bill for Title Military Surplus Off Road Moves to Virginia Senate

The amendment passed to give to 2019. You have until 2019 to be considered "grandfathered". If you let it lapse after that or sell it, it is under the new plate rules from then on. Does not affect any that are not marked "off road only". You got off lucky if this is all of it.

Bad Bill for Title Military Surplus Off Road Moves to Virginia Senate

Note the change is only with titles marked "off road use only" and you have to 2019 to be "grandfathered" in. Nothing else but HMMWV is coming through with "off road use only" on the Bill of Sale or the SF97 title that I know of, so this will not apply to anything but HMMWV at this time...

    I think you're right 98G. I've seen it and it's getting worse.

Bad Bill for Title Military Surplus Off Road Moves to Virginia Senate

My son was in Norfolk and his bridge toll card didn't work right, sometimes would register and other times wouldn't. While he was out on the sub they would send nasty threatening letters that said he owed huge amounts of money for "fees" that they tacked on. The letters came to our house, not...

Did you miss the part that they will be identified by not having the 17 digit vin number? That rather well includes most of our trucks.

Bad Bill for Title Military Surplus Off Road Moves to Virginia Senate

I've emailed Indiana Senator Randy Head asking him to champion a law in Indiana that takes the fact the government has just sold several billions of dollars in equipment to us. Maybe we can be proactive, not reactive, since highly regulated states are taking the rights to use them "on road"...

Bad Bill for Title Military Surplus Off Road Moves to Virginia Senate

Just to throw this out...I have a dump truck, an m929 that I use occasionally around the farm and within maybe 20 miles. I didn't buy it for parades and I'm not using it commercially. It's use is occasional. You should have a farm designation also, that while restricted, recognizes these...
