MLBHUNTRESS,
Okay, I'll toss out an idea here. I don't know GA law, but in Wisconsin, state statute allows a person to bond for title. This means that if you own a vehicle w/o a title, there is a procedure to go through (involving the DMV) whereby the owner purchases a bond (essentially an...
Vandrel,
It's a pretty confusing patchwork of rules and authority over them. Titling is a federal matter, while registration is that of the state/s. It's important that people understand how different states have different laws to deal with.
You're right, participation in a national...
I see you're new here. You're correct about box 1 on an HS-7 form, but you're mistaken if you think that NHTSA will straighten out a registration issue with a state.
According to a letter I got from Coleman Sachs, NHTSA chief of import and certification (or some such title), "registration is...
Swiss,
Most bills die before passage. You should ask your legislator's office what the percentage of proposed bills that pass actually is in GA. Here's a national map: https://www.billtrack50.com/blog/election/comparing-state-legislatures-by-counting-bills/
All the more reason to appreciate...
I just searched the AZ DOT site, and I found nothing about this in writing. I also went to the Ariz. Mil. Veh. Collectors Club (AMVCC) http://www.armytrucks.org and I found nothing about this subject. But if it's true, then a separate thread needs to be started, IMHO.
Now, back to Georgia news...
Recovry4x4,
You really have to ask Florida DOT about your registration questions. Registration is the responsibility of the state, so individual states may vary. In general, states will issue registration if you have a title, and the SF-97 gets you a title.
The MIL-STD 1180B was dated 1986...
The Georgia Senate is the upper house, so yes, typically the lower house looks to the upper for some guidance. It's also a good sign that it was a unanimous vote. Will it seal the deal? - not necessarily, but it helps.
Swiss,
Huge kudos you and the other guys who have helped so much...
Bears v. Outlaws
Unless it's a legal bear, in which case just walking quietly around him still makes you an outlaw. Bears seem to like to mess with outlaws. Zout's right, the bear was already poked, and now he's looking for the outlaws. Unless you actually believe that driving an illegal...
Swiss,
Great job getting this to a vote.
TO ALL GEORGIA MEMBERS,
Step up and contact your Senator! A phone call is best, as it really shows you care. A letter works ok, but an email often gets lost in the flood. Phone calls carry the most weight politically.
Be sure to tell them to...
Bet on it. You can be dam* sure that the DOT involved is reading your comments, especially if it's a fight. Act accordingly. If you want it kept private, don't post on a forum. If you don't want a record, make it verbal.
Best not to be too insulting or confrontational, nor to give up your...
I FULLY AGREE. This is what I wrote previously:
Titling is a federal issue, but registration is the responsibility of each individual state.
You're right, they do not have to acknowledge any other state. BUT, sometimes courts will consider prior court decisions, especially so if it's a...
Also FYI, Here's a link to the Wisconsin Dept. of Admin. Div. of Hearings and Appeals case over the Chevrolet Blazer, during which the MILSPEC document won the argument. It's a notice that the case is being reopened. http://dha.state.wi.us/home/Decisions/DOT/2011/110016rhg.pdf
It was...
Zout,
I just noticed where this thread seemed to be going. It sounds as if you are running into the same situation we did in Wisconsin: that former military vehicles are considered to not meet FMVSS, and are therefore not able to be registered.
A couple thoughts for you. In our fight, one of...
