Guys,

I have a problem, I am wondering how guys that put 6.5's in their 6.2 powered CUCV's dealt with this problem, oil cooler fittings on the block, the brass ones are the standard 6.2 fittings, and the silver ones are the fittings that came off the 6.5 that was installed in a 97 1 ton 2wd pickup

Thanks,
Ed

From what I've read here the 6.2 oil line fittings were a one of a kind GM creation?

The threaded holes in the 6.2L block are standard (I'll have to check if they are metric or SAE).

I have seen guys use a reducing bushing to make the 6.2L fitting screw into the 6.5L block.

Threads on the 6.5 seem to be metric. . . .
Do you know where the bushings can be had?

Thanks,
Ed

Any hardware store with a larger selection of fittings. When I have test fired engines in the can, I purchased some barbed fittings to hookup a temp oil line. They where both the 6.2L and 6.5L. Off the shelf stuff. Sorry I don't remember the size.

I would take your fittings and test fit different connectors to see what size they are and then look for the bushing. Once you know the size you may need to order a bushing from McMaster Carr or someplace like that.

Airehydraulic here in Las Cruces, can probably get me fixed up, but not on a Sunday. Was just wondering if others had run up on this problem.

I know Stonepicker put a 6.5 in his dually.

The 6.5L engine blocks changed in 1996. They went to a different fitting for the oil cooler lines.

Looking up the 6.5L part number 10-8070102BA it shows it is a 7/8" IPT

I havent found the size for the 6.2L 14055586 but seem to recall it is 5/8" IPT

YMMV

Any Ace Hardware stores around?

They might have one in the plumbing section. At least you can verify the sizes.

Thinking about it some more, they may be 3/4" and 1/2". I have slept to many times since I bought the barbed connectors.

Old block should be 3/8" NPT (Male Pipe Thread) "I think" and the newer blocks are 1/2" NPT. I would take your old fittings and hoses to a Hydraulic store and have them made up like I did on my Dually. Cost me around $75.00. Or buy the kit like I did on my two CUCV-II's from....http://www.lubricationspecialist.com/

just did this two weeks ago, mine were standard ntp fittings, if i remember correctly 3/8 id 1/2 od bushings, i just took both fitting to H.D. and matched the threads i all ways guess wrong with ntp threads, the way the blocks were cast screwing the bushings into the 6.5 block brought the holes out about even with where they were on the 6.2 block, and the line hooked up easy and the bracket bolted in place no trouble.

6.2 pump housing.jpgpump housing.jpgIMG_20131030_092548_228.jpgan issue i came across putting a hmmwv 6.5 in my cucv 1009, the pump housing in the second photo is the 6.5 and has an extra spring and built up area circled, it felt as if the linkage was binding when i swapped the tops, is i used the linkage from the 6.5 (bottom left 3rd photo) with the solenoid from 6.2 (top right 3rd photo) bought two neoprene washers at Ace hardware, o-ring looked good on top so kept it no leaks so far?
