Ammeter bypass; question Im sure its been covered

Am I correct in believe that in order to bypass the ammeter, you simply take the black and red wire off the back of the gauge and splice them together?

Unless there is a shunt for the amp meter, right? I don't know that vehicle. If there is a shunt, just remove the meter wires and isolate them. In general, if wires at meter are small, theres a shunt.
