Self-propelled chassis BAZ-6944 was designed for use in a missile system 9K714 Oka. The layout of machines in general, similar to the layout of the car BAZ-5921. In front of the case is the control room behind it - the engine compartment, the rest of the body takes the load compartment. In the engine compartment mounted V-twin diesel engine UTD-25 400 hp Torque from the engine to the wheels is transmitted through the transmission, distribution circuit board realizes the power flow. Transmission consists of a five-speed hydraulic transmission, two-speed transfer case with inter-side stowing differential, cardan gear, flight gear and wheel gear. The scheme also includes a differential transmission mechanism, eliminating rigid kinematic connection between the wheels, front and rear bogies on each side. The machine has eight drive wheels with wide-section tires changing pressure. Suspension of all-wheel independent torsion bar. The wheels of the first and second pairs - managed. The car is able to overcome water obstacles. Movement of the machine afloat at the expense of two water-jet propulsion.
