Got a multifuel deuce in and crank pulley/harmonic balancer totally loose. For anyone that has run into this before, is this a busted crankshaft? Before I tear into it just wondering.

Funny story on this. My shop is right near a property with bee hive boxes. On Sunday when I was going to work on the truck, I noticed beekeepers removing the boxes. No big deal I thought until I started draining the radiator and was ATTACKED by pissed off BEES and bitten 5 times ouch. Needless to say I pulled the plug on the ops.

Same happened to me, once - with a "condition unknown - ran when parked" 5-ton LDS. (Complete engine sitting in its crate; all accessories there and looking nice and clean... for $200, so I jumped on it...)
Short story: crankshaft was broken, right in between the front main journal and the 1st crank-pin journal. Who could tell...

Funny thing is, it was discovered only after the motor was installed and fired up, first time. It ran smooth on all six, with everything moving normally - except for the pulley which had that erratic wobble... obviously.

In your case I would do a thorough "pry-bar-mode" inspection, before anything.

 That would be such a disappointment! Awesome engine design though, to even run with a broken crank. NDT, I think I know where to find a OEM LDS crankshaft if needed.
