Congradulations on your new DEUCE! I just got mine on the fourth of this month. I wasn't really ready to buy one yet, but when I
found one here in Baton Rouge where the logistis wouldn't cost me anything I had to Bid on it. I won the bid at $1210 and with a little
help from my boat batteries and starting fluid, drove it the ten miles home. I was lucky enough to get a SF97 with mine. MY problem
now is finding Insurance. Hagerty and gulfway are options if it looks "restored", but they want pictures to show that is a collector restored vehicle. My State Farm Agent could only find a commercial underwriter to insure it for $512 per six months. The collector
Insurance quote was less than $300 a year. Good luck with your new purchase.

I did call GL customer relations today, and was told that they will "work with me " on getting an SF-97. She sounded quite positive and helpful. I'll keep you all informed as things progress(slowly).
I just called GL to see if they would work with me. I got a no way, not going to happen. Let me know if you are able to get one.

Thanks for the comments! The plan of registering as something else is a last resort thought,(not well planned at this time)! I called GL yesterday to confirm receipt of my revised EUC. (confirmed) then I expained what I was in need of.(SF-97) I was transfered to a title specialist. She said I have been misinformed! Then I asked why no SF-97, was it their decision or Federal Gov. She said it was "sort of both". I asked politely if this matter could be handeled by her superviser and she said No(she even said she could cancel the sale if i didn't like it! . I asked to contact a higher level of GL to discuss (beg) with. I was told NO! Then I called the Fort Drum site superviser for GL. He was even less helpful. Oh well!

The new issue of Military Vehicles magazine is in deed where you saw the editors comments about the GL no SF-97 thing. It was brought up in a letter to the editor By the Memphis Equipment Co. Owner. Gl says they are doing it as a test and welcome customer comments about the policy. I sent my comment in by email 5 minutes ago.
THis is good! They need to be bombarded with comments, and I can't imagine a positive one. Let them know how much more $$ they could make by providing an SF-97, etc.....

I let them know w lont time ago that I would not ever buy anything from them with no SF97 since it defeated the whole purpose of buying a truck if I can't title it.

At the last auction it seemed that with no SF97`s, the trucks brought top dollar overall. With that being the case, why would they bother issuing SF97`s?

Wait until the backlash starts when those who spent topdollar see how hard or impossible it is to get the trucks registered. There are ways around the title problem in most states but it is not easy. When it does get to be common knowledge about the hassle involved I think prices will drop. I hope to get a good parts deuce and cucv then.

I know of 2 people that were looking for trucks and would not buy through gl because of the sf97 issue. They were more than willing to pay much more for a titled truck from a private individual just to avoid all the bs.

That, and buying from a private party you get to see the truck running and can drive it. Many of the GL auctions are "running condition unknown", when you look at the truck it may have dead or missing batteries and you have no way to start it, so you are buying a pig in a poke. Unless there is a rod sticking out the block, you have a hard time telling if your prospective purchase is a gem or an expensive boat anchor!

EUC Approved!

:jumpin: 52 days have past since I won the 1970 M35A2 at Fort Drum and yesterday I received my final approval / paid invoice! Monday I will call to schedule pick-up. My uncle drives a detachable lowboy part-time so I've decided that is the easiest (safest)way to bring it home. I know some of you will probably want me to take some pictures, so I'll be sure to take a camera. nopics Once again I would like to thank each and every one here who has helped me in any way so far! I really appreciate all the support that is available here (STEEL SOLDIERS)! [thumbzup] One last note, I am still going to bid on the deuce in NY on E-Bay tomorrow for a parts truck!

I think I can give some input on why they don't want to fool with the SF97's I bought my DEUCE from GSA and when I got it it was not signed, I sent it back UPS Next Day Air becuse they couldn' have duplicate copies floating around and I had it had to be returned for signing. UPS lost it for two weeks in the mean time I called GSA back and told them of my situation, They then agreed to send another copy, which did arrive signed. A week later the original showed up signed. I would think it is probably the mistakes made by Idiots that were costing to much of there time.
