HMMWV Coolant Filter Setup?

Considering installing a coolant filter head on our M1123 after seeing how filthy the system was, in an attempt to keep the new heater core and radiator in better shape long term. Is there a consensus on which hoses to intercept for such a setup? Is there any advantage or disadvantage to using a filter with SCA vs a non additive filter? Using standard premixed coolant.

Unless you're running Caterpillar DEAC there are not a lot of pre-mixed SCA compatible coolants on the market. If you want to filter your coolant I would use a modern coolant type and use just a simple water filter with no boosters. Coolant filters have gone the way of the dodo... They primarily existed because nobody was following the SCA dosing instructions. Many believed a system could be overdosed with SCA which is not true. When people get an idea like that in their head you'll never change it. Instead, add a filter change interval. People love changing filters for some reason.

Thank you, that confirms what I thought about the SCA additive. I've just never seen so much sediment in a system before and after the cost of a radiator, new heater, water pump and hoses, I figured a simple water filter would be cheap insurance.

There are acid based flushes that are good for removing the sediments. Coolant corrosion inhibitors are film forming and can't form protective films under existing dirt and corrosion. If the system was dirty it needs to be cleaned.
