M101A2 serial number question

My M101A2 trailer has in the serial number part of the tag a four digit number followed by US ARMY NWOM 9C

1214 US ARMY NWOM 9C

When I apply for the SF97, should I just use 1214 as the number, or include all of the characters in the VIN box? I ask because I don't want to show up at DMV and have them say "That is not the correct number.."

I would think that the four digit number should suffice.....
