M1165 Fording Kit Removal

Hey guys,

I recently got two M1165's that originally had the fording kit but have lost much of it in the demill process, valve removed, exhaust removed, disconnected hoses in the engine bay, etc. I see lots of information on adding the fording kit but not much on removing/discontinuing it. I intend on keeping the snorkel and adding the exhaust back at some point but I don't ever intend on actually fording with it and it seems like pressurizing everything and having the rest of the kit only can lead to potentially more problems down the road. I want this truck to be as reliable as possible. What do I actually need to do to eliminate the fording kit? Any other recommendations?

Removal or addition of a fording kit has nothing do with reliability of a hmmwv….the selector valve is removed so no possibility of leaving it in “forde” position, you only need to install a new CDR valve because the original was removed

Awesome, thank you for your advice. So it's putting it in fording mode that pressurizes everything?

I guess I'll just buy a new CDR valve, connect it to my disconnected hoses, and I'm in business!

Be careful in the mean time as the intake manifold is open to ingesting crap through the hose where the CDR valve was removed, one little piece of crud and you will be getting another engine.

Thanks for the heads up, I just realized that last night and ordered new CDR valves and the associated hoses (while im in there might as well go for new!) for both trucks today. Luckily I've only run one truck for about 5 minutes and the second for about 30 seconds so far (needs a fuel tank).
